Android Wear 2.0 rollout has been delayed because Google found a bug

Vlad, 30 March 2017

To say that the state of the Android Wear 2.0 release is a mess would be an understatement. The new version of the wearable operating system was unveiled last year and its first release timeline was fall 2016. It didn't make that, being delayed until early 2017. Then everything finally seemed fine and it was supposed to make it to a smartwatch near you starting in February, which is when Google outed the official list of devices getting it.

Yet here we are at the end of March and only a few hours ago did we hear anything about any smartwatches actually being updated to Android Wear 2.0. Only three wearables are getting it at the moment or within the next few days, however. Why? Well, it turns out that Google found a show-stopping bug and fixing it is apparently taking some time. Here's an official statement issued by the search giant on the matter:

We have started rolling out the Android Wear 2.0 update to Fossil Q Founder, Casio Smart Outdoor Watch WSD-F10 and Tag Heuer Connected. For other devices, the update is currently being delayed due to a bug found in final testing. We will push the update to the remaining devices as soon as the issue is resolved.

So there you have it. Patience is said to be a virtue, and that's even more true for owners of Android Wear watches. Hopefully the bug will be squashed soon, because we're fast approaching the first anniversary of Google's initial announcement of Android Wear 2.0. And that's just kind of sad.

What I want to know is when are they going to fix the heavy drain on the battery. A watch only lasting 6 hours is a wast of time.

Yep... that's one of the strategy issue I mentioned on other post. 1- They sell their SW license to everyone without the right level of control on the final product, cost and its retail price. 2- End result is a huge diversity without market app...
