John, 04 Feb 2014you do not, i repeat- do not, get a better brand than APPLE... moreUnfortunately, with Apple, all you get is the brand. They are masters of marketing, and promoting style over substance.

The products always look very nice, but they are near the highest price point for the device type, and almost universally have lower quality hardware and worse tech specs than comparable devices. Apple mobile devices in particular are extremely restrictive, and have very poor capability for networking and file exchange.

If all you care about is looking cool, an iPhone 5c might be the device for you. If you actually want to do cool stuff with your devices (like my buddy who remote-controlled time lapse cameras using an R script executed through an Android device: try asking multiple application systems to work together on iOS), Apple is definitely not the way to go.

araz, 04 Feb 2014dont look at its plastic design and rather cheap look in wo... moreI respectfully disagree with just about everything you've said here. On the one hand, I do not think the phone actually looks or feels cheap. On the other, it only seems "smooth" and "powerful" if you don't compare the tech specs to comparable devices (virtually all of which have better hardware than the 5c), and don't have any desire to customize the device or make it part of your home "network ecosystem." In those respects it is "weak" and "clunky." See my review below for more details.

apple just knows to mint money. mr.B i have been using sony erricson xperia x10 since sept 2010 till date. i have not faced a single issue with the phone no hardware or software problem. people change android phones coz there are more options in android and not limited to one phone a year. apple took 7 years to get bluetooth full functionality in a phone. which nokia or sony or motorola had since 2003.

Stay away from the apple phone, if you drop it by accident the screen shatters like common house glass. Do not attempt to take it back you will walk away red faced and more disappointing in the phone.

I owned this phone for about 16 hours, of which I spent quite a few tinkering with it, before returning it. I've only owned android smartphones previously, but had a sprint upgrade and wanted a phone that was a) not enormous, and b) less than $100. This was the only option available at the time in the store.

The plastic casing is definitely a step down from the metal bodies, but it doesn't feel cheap or flimsy. The phone is pretty sleek (although actually less sleek than the 5s and a lot of other new phones) and attractive and comfortable to hold. The screen is good, images are clear, sensitivity and touch location accuracy are very good.

The phone lost me on 1) the user interface, and 2) the poor networking functionality.

The iOS user experience feels extremely dated, restrictive, and muddled. Essentially, the entire UI of iOS is like the "Apps" folder on an Android device: just columns of application icons taking up as many pages as you have apps. The attempt to add widget-like apps in the drop menu feels primitive. Very little meaningful customization of the desktop and user experience is possible.

Using the device to access and transfer files from other devices (particularly desktop/laptop computers) is unnecessarily difficult and expensive. The only "convenient" way to transfer files is via itunes (which only quite recently even added wireless syncing), which you must actively run on both devices in order to transfer files. Other methods require obscure work arounds, frequently requiring active file transfer management from the host computer (e.g. opening a transfer IP address in web browser and adding files to the phone from the computer). For $4-6 you can purchase applications that will allow direct connection to computers on a shared network and transfer data to the phone. However, because of the "walled garden" OS approach, this data is not accessible to relevant applications (e.g. mp3 files cannot be found by iTunes, EZMP3, or your other third-party music app of choice), and you can only open your files with the viewers/players built into that application.

Contrast this with an Android device where it is easy to procure a free application that will find devices on a common smb network, allow you to navigate the computer's shared file system, and transfer data to desired locations on the device which will be accessible to appropriate applications.

                                TL;DR
I like the hardware for the money, I just wish it wasn't burdened with iOS.

5c is better than 5. The only advantage of 5 is the alluminum body but overall, 5c wins. I already have a 5c and i can say its awesome.
