This is my 1st Android smartphone, used around 10 years ago for around 1 year. Before this I was still using SE K750i. These are the kind of experimental device, where phablet become more and more popular. At that time, I still do not has clear concept about Antutu score, importance of internal storage size, screen PPI,camera quality and battery capacity. I bought this based on a tech review site recommendation. The rest is history, this hybrid phone and tablet works more like a big smartphone, the performance at that time is adequate for it's price, but the 8GB storage is too small, there are 16GB and 32GB version on later release with slightly better processor, and bigger RAM. This device still alive by today, but it doesn't get any Android version updates, just some rom updates on the same Android version. I get a proper 5" smartphone later that year, and bought a more proper big phablet the next year, tech just get improved very fast around those years.

I had it now for 3 years. ... moreNot really, I think only good Fonepad is this original Fonepad, as this is being the sibling of Google Nexus 7 tablet 2012. Other newer Fonepad actually is having quality issue, due to latest Intel Atom processor, which caused many overheat, and cause apps to lag.
ASUS now are focusing on Zenfone series. The only closest thing you can get for upgrade is ASUS Zenfone 3 Ultra.

... moreThis is not just issue for this Fonepad, but is ASUS brand overall issue with Android OS updates.
Much like other reputable brand, this Fonepad is considered not popular, and won't be in the list for future Android updates.
If you really considering OS updates are important, buy Apple product, or other popular Android tablet from company like Samsung (well, only high end popular model being have regular updates, other low end model will face the same issue)

I am using Asus FonePad7 K004 ME371 with Android 4.1.2 OS.
Wanted to upgrade to Android 4.3 OS, but there is no support from Asus company.
Even after sending several mails to Asus customer service there is no help.
Asus has overlooked people having Asus Fonepad 7 but support is given for Asus Zenpad and other products.
I request all people having Asus FonePad 7 ME371 tablet to jointly appeal to Asus to provide help for people having this tablet.

had for 3 years.. only complaint - can't downlad apps..... no firmware upgrade.
so when i contact support here in OZ Asus try to charge me $5 for a question and call it an email question not a firmware question - bots must be poorly programmed.
When the K004 dies will I buy latest Zenphone...

Dearest gsmArena and Asus supporters,enthusiasts and readers.Mr.anonymous 3 opinions are right.This good quality smartdevice tablet,unfortunately,discontinued,but after almost 4 years of using it,it is still works very well!!Tablet is so lovely that all households family members use it and continue their users incomplete works!!!?Because we have nothing secret to hide!Of course,this tablet itself has two superior quality default apps that they are still unique in researching all tablets nowadays!!Its browser,HTLM5,and extraordinary file manager!!!You can copy or transfer everything from internal memory to external memory and vice versa!!!Its keyboard and ultra saving battery are exlent too....Hopefully,a day comes that we see its complete 10.1 inches of this quality tablet as Fonepad plus 10.1 with todays standards!!!A question from Mr.Anonymous!?What about its upgrading to android 5 lollipop!!!?Thanks to answer+thanks all mentioned names.Omid46....

This budget tablet is fantastic. I had it now for 3 years. Battery life very impressing. Petformance is optimum. Phone functions and sound are great. I have the 8GB version therefore be careful with program installation as it may slow down the performance. I bought later on Samsung galaxy tab S 8.4. A total disaster tablet. Don't be fooled by big names. I posted several times my own opinion which many are sharing with me. I think ASUS are doing a fantastic job. This tablet is my favorite. Only drawbacks are camera resolution and lack of OS upgrade, no big deal for this super horse.

I've had an original Fonepad for three years now. I've performed a factory reset on it twice now, including yesterday (July 3). It works as well as it did the first day I bought it.
The thought has occurred to me to pair it with a compatible smart watch such as the Sony Smart Watch 2, which I might be able to get now at a clearance price.
I figure a smart watch is a pretty natural companion to the Fonepad, and the Sony SW2 is one of the very few I've come across that is compatible with the Fonepad's Android 4.1 OS.
Anyone here use their Fonepad with a smart watch?

This FonePad is considered discontinued and no update will be made.
It will stick to Android 4.1.8 only, with latest firmware WW_3.4.0 released on 2014 Nov 25.
I have this FonePad more than 3 years, and seriously, it is that reliable that cause me less headache.
Still, regarding the update, many apps and games still playable, but due to it's 8GB internal memory only, so only very little apps and games can be installed.
It's latest successor is ASUS ZenPad series.
If don't mind bulkiness, it's underrated ASUS Padfone S with tablet station is a better choice than those.

Just bought second hand Asus fonepad7think it's great except for when I'm texting any of my contacts like u wud on any mobile the writing is so small IV gone to settings on phone and clicked huge but not working

I recall this happen before... morewe have the issue " unfortunately messenger has stopped and unfortunately gapps has stopped..i 've gone through factory resetting, clear cache, clear history in all that..it doesn't work even my Fb its not working, ....its so annoying..!
