AT&T's Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 skips Android 5.0, jumps to Android 5.1.1

Vlad, 30 July, 2015

The update to Android 5.0 Lollipop for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 units sold in either Wi-Fi-only or LTE-capable unlocked form has been out since May.

And now AT&T has issued a new software release for its version of this tablet, but here's the thing. This isn't Android 5.0, it's actually Android 5.1.1. Right now that's the absolute latest iteration of Google's mobile operating system.

AT&T's Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 thus jumps straight from Android 4.4.2 KitKat (the version it launched with last year) to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, which is not something that we see happening very often.

If you own this device, expect to see the update notification popping up in the following days or weeks. Once that happens, you'll need to download a 926MB file over Wi-Fi, and then patiently wait for it to install.

After applying the update, you'll be running build number LMY47X.T537AUCU1BOG5. If you're tired of waiting for that notification, you can always manually check for the update by going to Settings > General > About device > Software update.
