I find the BlackBerry Z30 to be an excellent device and while "lack of apps" is a complaint amongst BlackBerry users and its detractors...I personally experience no app gap. I currently have well over 100 apps loaded onto my phone with 12-15 of those being Android apps that I've downloaded either through the Amazon App Market or 1Mobile Market. At present, I have absolutely every app that I want and they're all functioning quite nicely. But, nor am I much of a game player.

The HUB is obviously a key feature of the BB10 OS user experience and to this day the BB HUB remains second to none with regards to messaging efficiency...this phone is a messaging beast and the keyboard is truly excellent. Another terrific feature about the Z30 is the optimization of the OS...this device is simply fast and smooth; indeed, as smooth as any device on the market and smoother than most. IMHO, the device's smoothness is only rivaled by the latest release from Apple in their iPhone 6 and 6 Plus offerings. While I'm a current Android user as well; I notice that Android users by in large become focused on specs and I must say that I use to as well, but I've both owned and used many Android OS based phones whose specs are through the roof and yet virtually none of them come close to being as smooth as the Z30...proof that an optimized OS is far more important than specs.

Build quality - the Z30 is built like a tank, which I like, but others may not. I do recommend a case with this device as the display is built right to the edge of the device and it's bound to crack if dropped. When it comes to battery life...I love it, with light moderate use I get into the 50+ hour range on a charge. However, when I'm in absolute beast mode use I make it through a full day and this consists of say a 150 email, 75 SMS, hundreds of IM, taking pics, calls throughout the day, watching YouTube, browsing the web as needed, posting to social media, and document review.

Efficiency - this phone is incredibly efficient and this is a result of the BB10 OS. While you can certainly spend time on the device if you're simply bored; BlackBerry has streamlined this OS so well that it efficiently gets things done...as a result, I spend much less time on this device than I do any other phone, especially Android. You're in, communicate, call, review, and back onto life's face-to-face task. The phone is excellent in this area and it's the most efficient device that I've ever owned. Additionally, the call quality is excellent as are the dual speakers. In my speaker comparison test with the HTC One M8 the Z30 wins in terms of clarity, depth of sound, tonal range, and volume.

However, not all is as good as it should have been.

First shortcoming: my major complaint with this phone is with its display. The Z30 obviously runs a 5" Super AMOLED display with 295 ppi. The screen colors are truly vibrant and it does look sharp, but when compared to other offerings on the market you'll notice a decrease in text quality when viewing very small text and this is a result of the pixel density. It's not something that's bothersome in any way, but it is apparent when comparing it to the HTC One M8, the Nexus 6, the Samsung Note 4 / S5, and the iPhone 6 Plus, which I have done. This shortcoming doesn't diminish my like of the device as it only becomes apparent when in comparison, but it certainly could have been done better by BlackBerry. Additionally, there are brighter screens on the market...the iPhone 6 series comes to mind.

Second shortcoming: the camera - while I'm a fan of the Z30's camera interface due to its superb simplicity this camera is by no means the best on the market. It takes very acceptable pics worthy of posting on Instagram, FaceBook, Twitter, etc...but it's not going to win you any camera awards and it struggles in low light conditions most of all.

Third shortcoming: internal storage - the device comes "only" with 16GB of internal storage; as for myself I would have liked 32GB of internal storage at a minimum. However, the device also allows for expandable memory and I'm currently running a 128GB microSD card in my Z30. While I have no storage issues, I just wish the device would have come with 32GB of internal storage.

Fourth Shortcoming: no removable battery. This device comes with a 2880 mAh battery and while the battery life is excellent...I just wish that BlackBerry would have allowed for a removable battery.

Fifth shortcoming: Google Play services - mostly non-existent for the BB10 OS. Luckily, the Z30 comes with flash and there's no Google service that I don't currently have access to or draw upon except for the Google App Store...unless I choose to download through SNAP, in which case, problem solved.

Sixth shortcoming: app selection - while there are roughly 400-500K apps that are available for the BB10 OS as it's capable of running both BlackBerry and Android apps, there still isn't the selection that exists for straight Android or iOS users. While I personally experience no app gap as a result of either running Built for BlackBerry apps, or Built for BlackBerry Client apps, or running a quality Android app...I'm sure that not everyone will be satisfied, but there's been a quality app solution to everyone of my personal needs.

Overall, I love the Z30 and it's an incredibly smooth device that is my go to phone whenever core communication or efficiency is required. Security...it's a BlackBerry so you're covered! I wouldn't necessarily recommend this phone if you want a device that you'd be interested in sitting around and playing with all day. However, if your focus is business / professional / and social communication, consuming information, document reviewing, mad messaging, managing your day-week-month activities, then this device is simply hard to beat to this very day.

My main usage consists of the following:
      1. Email / SMS / MMS - eight email accounts
      2. Calendars, Schedulers, To-Do Lists
      3. Document review, edit, scan, and printing of Word, Excel, PPT, and PDF files.
      4. Instant Messaging - WhatsApp, BBM, Google, Yahoo
      5. Video Calls / Conf: BBM, Cisco WebEx, Skype
      6. Banking, Stocks, Push News Apps - wide assortment
      7. Instagram, Twitter, FaceBook, Reddit
      8. Music: Slacker, Pandora, iHeart, TuneIn Radio, and built-in FM Radio Tuner
      9. Shopping: Amazon and eBay
      10. Viewing NetFlix and YouTube

There are a ton of other things that I occasionally mess around with, but these things are the top ten.

Bottom Line: BlackBerry Z30 - Excellent - Recommend.

I've been using Blackberry Z30 for about 7 months. Amazing phone by all means. The only slight problem it has is it's camera which has less quality than it's counterparts such as Iphone 5S.

Wilson Cinco, 06 Dec 2014I just have one question, as I see the specs of BBZ30,BBZ10... moreI would get the z30 because of it's processing speed. I can't suggest the z3 because of the lower spec and that the camera isn't better than z30 or z10. BlackBerry phones don't have good camera software. Its focusing is slow and sometimes you don't know where it is focusing and you get blurry shots. Also, it doesn't allow you to pick on areas of exposure. I don't think any cellphone cameras are really good even iPhone and Samsung with the exception of the old Nokia phones like the N8 or the 808.

Anyone looking at buying a great branded phone with a reasonable price then the Z30 is the way to go. I would say that this phone is inline with the blackberry Torch series, a phone with a life-span of about 4 years. Sturdy and strong with excellent software.
