Google finally announces Play Family Library, up to six members can share purchases

Despite the fact that it's been available to some people for around a couple of weeks now, Google has only made the Play Family Library feature official today. As we revealed back when it first started going live, this essentially lets up to six people share purchases made across Google Play - be those for apps, games, movies, TV shows, or books.

All of these items can be shared on Android, while movies, TV shows, and books can also be enjoyed on the Web and through Google's apps for iOS.

There's no additional fee for Google Play Family Library, you just have to set it up. When you do that you have to select a credit card to share as your family's payment method, but other family members will also get the option to buy stuff with their own cards or with gift cards.

And after you enable this functionality you'll have two separate libraries where you can put stuff you buy - one is shared (all your family members can access it), while the other is private. Essentially, you can choose to approve every single purchase your kids want to make, so you don't get any bank statements filled with thousands of dollars worth of in-app thingies.

Now if you also want to bring loads of music to your family, you need to sign up for Google Play Music All Access' family plan, which costs $14.99 per month (once again, for up to six family members). This is now available in four new countries: Italy, Mexico, Ireland, and New Zealand.
