Metal Samsung Galaxy Alpha may be unveiled in a month

14 July, 2014

Rumors of a new, metal-clad Galaxy line are back, this time from South Korean site ETnews.com. The article is light on detail but cites industry insiders who claim the Samsung Galaxy Alpha will be unveiled on August 13.

The Alpha line is intended to compete with the Apple iPhone by swapping Samsung's usual faux leather back for a metal chassis. Various purported images show an all-metal back, while others show a metal frame with plastic panels.

Specifications differ – various reports put the screen at 4.7-inch 1080p or 5.2-5.3 inch QHD. While rumors can't agree on size and resolution they do agree that Samsung will use its premium Super AMOLED tech. An early spy shot promised razor-thin bezels, too.

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha phone will be powered by the new Snapdragon 805 chipset used in the Galaxy S5 LTE-A and presumably in the Samsung G901 Galaxy F, which may or may not be the first of the Galaxy Alpha series (again, there are conflicting rumors).
