Moto G Google Play edition gets discontinued

07 January, 2015

The first generation Moto G, which was available on the Play Store in Google Play edition form, is no longer being sold.

The phone was launched last year shortly after the standard version, and perplexed many as the standard version had close to stock software already and as such didn't differ much from the Google Play edition.

The first generation model didn't stick around for long as Motorola quickly updated it with a second gen model last year itself, so it was only a matter of time before it disappeared from the Play Store as well.

The Moto G now joins the many Google Play edition devices that have been discontinued in the past year, leaving the HTC One (M8) as the only surviving Google Play edition device left.

Waiting for manufacturers to get the hint from OnePlus and start certifying custom ROMs.
