Oppo confirms N3's lightweight aluminum-lithium frame

25 September, 2014

Oppo is continuing its Oppo N3 teaser campaign that thus far focuses on its unique aluminum-alloy body. The aluminum-lithium body will reportedly have one-third the density of stainless steel, making it very lightweight.

The teaser image drives that point home by showing the aluminum frame being lifted by helium balloons. That's a more down-to-earth image than the space-based teaser from a couple of days ago but aluminum-lithium alloy is being used by modern airplanes like the Boeing 777X.

This will be the first time this material is used on a phone. Lithium also promises to improve the stiffness of aluminum, so hopefully the N3 won't bend like the pure-aluminum iPhone 6.

This latest teaser image shows that the initial leak we received did not show the actual design of the Oppo N3. The second leak seems right on the money, though.
