HTC Desire 820s hits 1.26 million pre-registrations in China
News outlet Focus Taiwan reports HTC China has has boasted 1.26 million per-registrations for the Desire 820s. In fact, HTC China says registrations keep piling up at a steady pace. While a pre-order signup doesn't guarantee a purchase since they're cost-free, it's impressive that the device is getting this much attention in a such competitive market.
HTC has announced that only 50,000 Desire 820s units will be available at the online sale kick-off. The first 5,000 buyers will get a $65 (CNY 400) discount. This way, the $293 (CNY 1,799) HTC Desire 820s will cost them $228.
The HTC Desire 820s launched at the start of November with a MediaTek MT6752 chipset that promises better performance than the Snapdragon 615. The phone packs a 5.5" 720p screen, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, 13MP main camera and 8MP selfie camera and LTE connectivity.
If a big chunk of those pre-order registrations convert into paying customers, HTC will have a reason to hope for a positive Q4 2014 financial outcome. The last quarter saw HTC come out with a small profit, so the company is fighting for all the sales it can make before the year's end if it wants to finish on a positive note.
