More than 90 percent of Nokia phones in developing countries are counterfeit. Those 4000 employees will hopefully improve these phones to Semi-Counterfeit and nurture a market that Nokia has failed to exploit!

Nokia should cut 4,000 engineers but not workers. There are many new Nokia models not moving here in China. Consumers select Samsung & HTC only.

4000 people that must be very happy of Eflop's decision to be different by going with WP7! You go with a market leader, not a compnay that thinks that coming 3rd is a great achievement.

Nokia will never win back the market share by making Andriod ph. Perhaps they'll lose their market share faster than ever. Why? Very simple, is there any "Me Too" product that can survive in the market?

There are more than enough OEM for Andriod in the market and Nokia moving to andriod will be a suicide move.

End of era, 09 Feb 2012Nokia phones are no more expensive than Samsung or Apple. ... morewhat's the matter with China? That is best place to move to - skilled workers - low salaries. That is bigger profit for Nokia. They need money urgently. Microsoft will not subsidize them forever.

However my point was that Nokia (as almost everyone) can make any hardware. The big problem is how to sell the cheapest device with the biggest profit. Nokia did that for ten years, before Apple came and claimed that market.

As far as I know, Nokia non-smart phone majority are made in plant like Foxconn, N-series and Lumia is made in Europe. So if they want to follow Apple way of design to manufacturing lead time (read NYT reports on that), it make sense to move to China to reduce the time it take for its products to reach market.

Hopefully shifting to Asia doesn't mean China.

Nokia should have recognised that there were two market segement beginning to arise from 2005 onwards - smartphones and non-smart phones. If they have recognised that earlier, they would not rely on their overall sale to justify their dominance.

Nokia's strength has always been developing excellent phone with good hardware, build quality and a responsive and easy interface ie non-smartphone phones, which they still do.

What Nokia should have done, is to continue making excellent non-smartphone phones to boost their sales, while learning how to compete in the smartphone race.

Eventually they should win their throne back and if not, they would still have customer's respect and loyalty.

Time will tell if Nokia is too far gone....

You don't need marketing genius to figure it out. You always had right hardware so switch to right OS
