13 March, 2012
It turns out the floating touch technology isn't the only trick up the Sony Xperia sola's sleeve.

AnonD-45460, 14 Mar 2012I know what hover means but in that video he is touching th... moreS2 battery sucks. and there is something fundamentally wrong with Android phones. All of them are fast and good in the beginning (same as their battery), but after you put heavy load and save a lot of stuff in it, it becames slow and sluggish (same as WIN INTEL PCs). I have iphone4 32G with 31.5G already used storage. And I have for almost 1.5 years. Last time I compared it with my friend S2 (6 months old) and Note (3 months old) mine was flying!!! I told him why you do not go and get the 3rd set of Android phone maybe HTC One??? I am a Apple fan but not the fanatic one. Apple products including their phones are good quality hardwares and softwares, no doubts about it. The fact is fact. Good luck with SonyErricson. But I am not going to carry several Android phones with me. I have only one phone and it is iPhone, and I am pretty happy with it. Go and get HTC One quad core or eight core, if the build is not good then what is the use of it???

geez, 14 Mar 2012use thick snow gloves or hover your finger just right above... moreI know what hover means but in that video he is touching the phone not just Hovering.

Anyway I doubt it will give the battery backup my iphones does, i have an S2 & iphone 4 the s2 used to be faster when it was new, the iphone always had more battery backup and has never slowed down despite having one less core and an inferior gpu.

              Wow, some comments down there.
I think some handsets keeping their capacitive screen's sensitivity very high that the users operate their handset through THIN layer of fabric. I can with my N8, but with thicker layer, say gloves - it is not; so there's Sony's technology enter.

HOVER or FloatingTouch is when user just move finger over the display without touching it. Now it seems a difficult and completely useless thing for say some izombies, since their master haven't told them how to use that the right way but for others with sense, it will come in handy in browsing website with popup menus on hover. And developers can make it to use in their apps too.

Now this is the Sony I like, Sony being Sony and making things more useful, paying attention to the details none other manufacturer thinks necessary for practical uses.

Their resistive touch-screens were far better than any other in market and now they take control to make the capacitive screens better. And by better I meant to say more practical, not the toy that they are right now. Capacitive screens are waste of technology and I am hoping that Sony will bring the pin-point Accuracy back to it so people like me can take advantage of that thing too, and use the so-called advance technology to more than a toy.

2 mm is almost negligible. we are not going back to resistive touchscreen, are we?

just when everyone is crazy about touchscreen sony makes a nontouch-screen.

i want to try this hover thing because my finger hovers a lot above the screen before i actually touch the screen. So how will this phone interpret/process it.

you don't even understand what hover means.

                                    yawn.

AnonD-1227, 14 Mar 2012my old nokia 5800 has s-pen years before samsung galaxy not... morenokia 5800's touch screen is resistive so anything can be used to register a touch. that's different in the situation of today's touch screen divices - capacitive touch screen needs voltage signals from the finges itself and in the case of a pen, it should be digitized. that's why it's a revolution when capacitive touch screens registers signals even when one is wearing gloves.

if i have this set i would rather prefer to disable floating touch as it can be troublesome to avoid unwanted touches or floats.
