The Galaxy S III finally went official and it looks like it has what it takes to pick up, where the S II left off.

sorry but i think s3 is weak. i don't know why but it's weak. it's like old tech. i'm waiting for some future tech. arm 15 or krait s4 with adreno 320. and there is reason why thoose two are new tech.

rcl4444, 05 May 2012No worries. But I agree with your comments (and not sure w... moreJust to show my point, if the S3 had all the current features and looked like this:

        http://techthingdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/s3_mockup-900x506.png

it would be flying off the shelves and as a device approach iphone sales records! Would have been a great design evolution from the S2, clean, stunningly simple, sharp lines, and georgeously slim.

Anyway, that's my wishful thinking done...time for me to go off and get a life :-)

Like you say, if possible Apple will push the screen res benchmark higher. Plus have great design likely slimmer then previous, likely larger screen with very thin bezel for less overall size increase. And yes, they'll copy features from other phones and call them their own, but will make them simple to use (and more practical).

I'm no Apple fan, but give credit where its due - they're pretty good at reading what their fans want. And now that HTC, Sammy and soon Sony have their trump cards on the table, does anyone believe Apple won't make sure i5 has major features that are better, or look better, than the competition?

My frustration is Sammy is sooo close here - if they only packaged it better. Image IS everything. If you had a few devices with almost the same specs and price your going to buy the better looking & better quality one aren't you? Or for those who'll argue, for the same price you gonna buy a car that drives like a Ferrari and looks like an oversized bar of soap over a car that both drives and looks like a Ferrari instead?

I don't loose hope for another killer phone (GT-i9500 / GT-i9800) to appear rather than just a "symbolic phone" they introduced (GS3), hopefully from Samsung this year since they managed to show the way with GS1 and GS2 (those i own both).

As i was saying, they showed some nice small features, but what's the point of them to get copied later by Apple with a better design and better specs/features without having sold massively thanks to their headstart? Apple won't hesitate to add all those features and even make ads for them so that people get more "woowed" without thinking.

If Apple can crank up the resolution to 1080P in october, for sure they will. If they can toss in a 12/16MP sensor, sure they will too (do you think they will ask you what's the point like many are), NFC, LTE off course, i dunno for water proof coating, but sure they won't disappoint their public. They also learned from the past that by being too picky, they were being caught up by other manufacturers, they weren't ready to fight GS2, so now they are going all the way both features and appearance, popularity and addiction is already given to them.

AnonD-49259, 05 May 20121gb is enough for all that.I don't get why so many can be so limited in their way of thinking. You are in an IT world there, you have to think about future usage, not to what you are doing right now. See, if manufacturers had included 1gb ram instead of "only" 512mb in Galaxy S1 generation phones, all would have gotten official support for ICS (and not some random custom rom to pray for over forums).

With better specs, you get a better product life, that's true in every domain. What about Android 5, if it requires 2gb ram to run smoothly and 1gb as minimum ? Because on your dear 1gb ram atm on a SGS2, you should remember that you don't have more than 400mb free for your apps, and you can't use it fully anyway, due to restrictions closing your apps in background.

Nokia fans were so praising their 256Mb phones last year, where are they now? Microsoft also imposing more ram for their Windows Phones to be sure to get a better OS experience...

So try to evolve a bit, it's sad to say, but Steve Jobs at least could see the bigger picture than right in front of him like many commenting here.

Jack, 04 May 2012I thought the Galaxy SIII design looked familiar too. Then ... moreSadly, the similarity is only vague. Had Sammy used that i5 mock up design it would have made a great looking phone. Instead of sharp, slim, defined lines and curves the s3 is a blunted, bloated, plastic version.

I have the S1 & s2 and was looking forward to a groundbreaking s3 on all fronts. But design, pentile, 1Gb, no LTE on all, thicker, too large screen without ultra thin bezel... I'm not rushing out to get this. Will wait to see what the competition brings on or for the SGS4

Re-read yourself again and you will see that if you were replacing Samsung and S2/S3 by Apple and iphone 4/4S, it would have been exactly same thing.

Like many before me said, this new phone is good, but not enough to explain to spend 600-700€ on it, for which version? 16gb? So Samsung should have beefed it in features even if keeping that design of theirs.

Right, let us carry our selections of HD movies, several mp3 / flac for some, and off course, local stored photo collections (i don't want to be sure to have some signal to brag some photos to a friend, especially comfortably sat indoor or on a wild beach).

Do you think you ll be using your quad core beast (with all those added small features) like older generations?

A simple example, you ll prolly open several apps, other system tools running in background permanently (android got so many right?), instant messengers, prolly your social stuff too, then you ll decide to play, i dunno Real Racing 2 or some heavier game. Just to see that some apps got closed meanwhile by the system to prevent your 1gb memory from being filled whereas you know you got so much power under the hood? For what? Just running benchmarks all day long?
