Anonymous, 16 Jul 2012I not seeing this as backslash for.sony at all. 1. The d... moreInteresting points!

To be honest, I don't mind chunky phones, etc. (I recently sold my GS2 to try out an Xperia Play for 6 months - nice handset!) BUT - if you compare the Xperia S to the elite Android handsets, it's not the best usage of handset design AND it looks like the X10 (which came out a good few years ago) - it's definitely a regression...

As for specs... the issue isn't whether we need quad core or not - they're here. And for Sony NOT to have one released, just means they're forgotten as a manufacturer - they can't stand up to any of the elite quad core handsets... even LG are releasing them! and... if you think that people keep a handset for 1-2 years... Sony's specs are outdated now, just imagine how outdated the Xperia S is going to be next year or the year after... they're just not future-proof...

They need to catch up quickly!

        1. The design not that bulk as you mention. And who said the slimmer device are better ? Its just save space in your pocket not in your hand actually. The size? Samsung n htc offer bigger size compare xps and galaxy note? And still people kept mention sony offer smartphone that to big?? The screen? How big u prefer for a phone?

        2. The spec were not that to outdated. As i agree sony not going to quadcore but still the duo core from sony provide are more the good enough for.daily task. And jellybean from android no.quad core required to makes it running smooth. Cause galaxy nexus not a quad core devicea but support jelllybean. Late in ics..?? Tell me something when galaxy nexus recieve ics update does other galaxy line recieve the update at the same timelime with nexus?

I think Sony have failed this year for several reasons...

            1. Although they've made an eye-catching design with the clear band at the bottom, it's made the handsets way too big in relation to screen size - making them too elongated / chunky vs actual usefulness...

            2. The biggest issue (as ever) for Sony is that they are releasing handsets with last year's technology in them... they are STILL a whole year behind the competition... so even their 'flagships' are only equivalent to mid-range phones for HTC / Sammy... they really need to join the tech race... and fast...

            3. Not releasing phones with the latest Android version is CRIMINAL - it means bugs with updates, poor reviews, and just shows how far behind they are in terms of getting their handsets ready for market..

            4. They need to stop removing features with Android lovers want (such as micro SD) and start ADDING features - not just expensive smart accessories...

            5. Releasing an 'updated' version of a handset released 6 months ago - not only alienates early adopters of the Xperia S - but at the very least the specs of the Xperia SL - should have been the specs of the original S - it's too little too late - and is still looking old compared to One X and GS3 (released months ago...) and this will be out in September!!!

I want to love Sony, I want my new phone to be Sony, but it's too much of a compromise at the moment... they're just not playing in the big league yet....

            :(

These pictures are fake. Sony wouldn't launch a new variant running Gingerbread(old music and market icons) whereas the original phone was already upgraded to ICS.

I don't deslike their design, it's kinda cool since 2010, because their designs are equal...tell me the design difference at first look between One series, Desire serires, Wildfire, Sensation series, Evo, Droid, Incredible, Rhymme...because I don't see where they innovate...try one thing, put gsmarena.com search option "HTC" and later SONY/Sony Ericsson and see who innovate more :D another thing, did U already grab in your hand the SONY Xperia, is the most comfortable 4,3" handset in the market U can have on your hand mate, and believe me, in my work I trid them all ;)
