Rumor: Sony Yuga to be called Xperia Z, to get IP57 certification

21 December, 2012
The upcoming flagship will reportedly use Sony's OptiContrast tech for its  5" 1080p screen to reduce glare.

What's with all the BS about smooth running/scrolling? Really. I have an Xperia Arc S and Xperia SL and have never had a problem with scrolling or lag. Of course, I"m not sitting here with a stop watch.

I guess some folks don't really have a life.

BTW, I took both my Xperia's to the local T-Mobile store and the staff was blown away by both of them - their screens, design, you name it.

I told them I'd heard that T-Mobile was considering carrying the Xperia Z and REALLY hoped they/T-Mobile would!

The Samsung galaxy mini didn't get ics so you can't say Sony didn't do well with their updates. I have an Xperia u and even with ics it still lags sometimes, it's still an excellent value phone but imagine what it would be like on jb that's why Sony won't upgrade it

          Those graphics are a lie.
There is no change to the top most layer. Is is still air->antireflection film->glass. It should be the same in both graphics since they don't say anything about a different (better) antireflection film.
The difference should be from 12% loss to 4% loss not to 0% loss due to reflection.

I see now more high spec were added inside their smartphone to support android os. Seems like dual core and a gig of ram still not enough to makes the device running smooth... maybe the android os itself need to be fix ...

I have just bought a 4.3 phone with external buttons for menu, home, back. I used to have a 4.3 PhotonQ 4G with the buttons taking a huge real state for them. PLEASE it really makes a difference!!!! The HTC DNA external buttons means the screen look much BIGGER. The only thing preventing me from buying the DNA is its tiny available 11GB memory and No micro-SD to expand the break-deal Flaw.
PLEASE Make the buttons EXTERNAL to make the screen bigger!!!

Don't care if it's stuck on ics. It's doin great. My iphone and sxs are still great. My nxt upgrade will bebe nxt year. Possibly ip5s or ip6. In my android, I don't feel it needs an upgrade. It's still perfect.

Anonymous, 24 Dec 2012That's why you upgrade phones. Btw, even iPhone Upgrades th... moreSure, I'm not arguing about the inevitable day the phone becomes "surpassed" by time (the hardware becomes obsolete) and it requires an upgrade.

What I am telling you is that day comes sooner for some rather than latter like others.
When you buy a smartphone from Sony you just know you are doomed for future OS updates. Usually you get just 1 update, the moment the calender year is anything other than the year the phone was released in then just forget about updates (unless you get exceptionally lucky, but then again, when I spend over €500 in hardware I tend to prefer relying on something more than just "luck").

The kind of behavior Sony has is the same you should expect from someone selling "turds". They kill support soon and move fast to the next "turd", unlike what should happen with quality products that had much thought and planning into them.

It's there where Apple is setting the standard. The 2009 iPhone 3GS still gets iOS6. But yes, like you said, eventually the hardware will be obsolete (the 2008 iPhone 3G is already discontinued from further updates).

Ultimately the choice should be made by the consumer, when the time comes and he sees it fit the he will get a new phone.

That is the exact opposite of the business model Sony is conducting. They kill the support for your phone early, forcing it to become obsolete much sooner than it really would have.

Is Sony the only one that sucks? No.
Does it make it "ok"? NO!
