smart move. They probably want to get a head lead on Samsung. Everyone buys samsung no matter what these days.

AnonD-112366, 26 Feb 2013But Sony is doing poorly even with Android. if what u said was correct, i would't continue with Sony since my first Sony Ericsson w960(2008) to Xperia Ray(2011), to Xperia U(2012) to the current one: Xperia S, and all of them runs smooth like butter, without any Hardware/Software problems.... u just want to spice it up with ''words''... so, I'm not doing so cuz I've been experiencing Sony phones since 2008 until that moment! and I love all Sony products, despite that im a big fan of that great brand.

everything should take it's place... so, u can't just judge the running of a Platform on some models by the same brand as if its a global FAIL on all brands or models.... so, in every brand there would be some defected models by the manufacturer, and it could be a software or a hardware issue.

if ''as u said'' Sony is doing poorly even with Android, then you wouldn't find a satisfied person like me or any millions of other Sony users.... So, don't forward your unsatisfied self to others, and keep it just to your self as a particular matters.

and BTW, Xperia T(Skyfall movie phone) and TX are one of the best 2012 flagships ;)

Seems like alot of Manufacturers are pulling away from Android.

Samsung, their most profitable manufacturer is going to be using android to fund Tizen

Sony is now most likely going to use Android to fund their firefox device

Htc is about to be out of business.

LG is going to multiple OS'es.

Huawei is doing the same as LG.

Motorola is one of Googles last hopes and they can single handedly keep android afloat especially if they continue the razr maxx line.

I guess manufacturer's are getting tired of Samsung dominating the sales and are trying out different paths.

A.d to some degree, you can thank the Samsung and Android loyalists for this pull.

I hope you're happy Android fanboys, you are part of the destruction of your own favorite OS.

Hope you can sleep well now knowing that you were part of this downfall.

it's my experiment about WP8, I do not need an OS, which always need much support from PC to manage data well; and easy to break my (music/video) Library into pieces by HARD and FIX sandbox method. Also very stupid *.pdf support. I even use pdf much more the MS'office in my work. And many and many missing features which you may easily to find in uservoice of MS site. Maybe WP8 will not die, but it cannot live healthy. MS need to change much harder and faster to make the WP survive.

About the choice of Sony, you cannot said that Sony put all eggs in a basket. Why we have this topic? Does it is a backup plan for Sony. Maybe Vita OS is another properties one also.

AnonD-82606, 26 Feb 2013Hi, Paco1x; I am sure that WP8 is the worst between iOS,... moreits funny you say that, cause i know multiple people who have left android and iOS for wat you say is the worst of the 3 OS's. secondly, clearly sony is stupid because they decided to put all thier eggs into one basket and look at thier sales... they are a micky mouse player in the mobile game.

thirdly, you speak highly of android and iOS now, but in a few months when Tizen, Mozilla, Jolla, ubuntu, and updated WP8 are out, you're gonna see poeple leave android to try something new. unless sony can find an OS to dominate in, they will go no where...

                      paco1x, 26 Feb 2013WP8 the worst mobile OS? WP8 it's not perfect, but is very ... moreHi, Paco1x;

I am sure that WP8 is the worst between iOS, Android, WP8. I owned the Lumia 920 for 3 weeks, and really CANNOT STAND OF IT. I thought that I was using a feature phone with a big touch screen. LOL Poor Nokia, and a shame MS. So Many tiny problems and missing features that may bother you (and of course bother me very much).

In another hand, I am sure that WP will be the last choice of Sony, since they cannot put their PS game network into it, while the OS also have Xbox hub.
So if you expect to have a Sony WP8, just dreaming or WAKE UP and live with Android ^_^

Firefox OS - Simple open web based OS, it is not powerful, it is not complicated, in fact it is as MOzilla has said themselves currently an entry level offering.

Why would companies switch over to Windows platform on their products over this?
WIndows requires multiple licences to be acquired from Microsoft, and a minimum level of Hardware requirements.

Where as Firefox OS, is meant to be completely open to developers and probably be much less cost to manufacturers to put on their devices, especially entry level devices which cost $150-350 to the consumer, and cost the manufacturers like 50-100$ to produce.

Which means higher profits for entry level phones, if they don't have to kick up huge licensing fees to Google, and/or Microsoft.

                        People may have a preference, such as Android, or iOS, BB10, WP8, Jolla, WebOS(Defunct), Sailfish(Defunct), MeeGO(Defunct), Symbian(Defunct).

In the end manufacturers are going to produce what makes them the most profit, regardless of what consumers may or may not want.

                        Just my opinion...Peace

WP 8... moreWP8 is a totally different story, Firefox is for budget phones, think of it as a feature phone with a smartphone OS. These will be phones with 256MB RAM and below and Cortex A5 processors and so on. Sure there will be dual core also but the important part here is to have a budget OS for budget phones, and WP8 is not that.

Yess! This will be like the return of the Sony Ericsson feature phones, solif phones with low end with good cameras and battery that can last for days and days. Im a high end user but always in need of a durable feature phone in addition for party and whatever, been using a Nokia N85 (yes, Nokia N-series are feature phones except the N900) the last year but now its too much broken, changed it for a C3-01 T&T, but what i actually wanted was an SE Elm, both because of the better camera and the much better durability compared to Nokia.

A 3.5 inch Sony Firefox with 5mp cam and LED flash, ARM11 or similar processor for max battery life. Im already waiting, hope they launch already in Q4.
