01 March, 2013
The Liquid S will be Acer's phablet, but this may mean any phone with a 4.7-inch screen or bigger.

Anonymous, 03 Mar 2013One hand usage not just limited to keyboard.... What about ... moreWhen it comes to gaming, it depends on the gameplay itself. Games like Angry Birds will need you to hold your device with both hands right? It's the other way around when it comes to other simpler games with different gameplay. But I won't say everyone can manage the feat I said is possible.

The same applies to video watching my friend. With all due respect, I do agree that devices like Note II are not one-hand operable at all times. But at the same time, I don't think many would want to play with their devices with one hand. Speaking about which, is the selling point of tablets and phablets. And before I forget, even standing in commuters, people watch videos on their tablets, holding them with one hand. It's a very common view here in Asia. Maybe it's just the trend over here, I don't know.

All in all, it all depends on how convenient and comfortable it is for one to hold their device with one hand. I had trouble using my Note II with one hand when I first got it. Days later, I found myself using it with one hand almost at all times, comfortably (kudos to Samsung for enabling the artificial keyboard tilting for that). For some, holding their 5"+ device against their face put them to a scenario of shame. But I'm proud because not everyone can afford a Note II here. I'm sure I'm not alone because many others talk on their phablet very comfortably and not bothered with everyone around them. No staring eyes whatsoever. It has become so common..

according to gsmarena, original note is not a phablet, but the galaxy 'tab' 2 is?
well, imo phablets should be between 5" & 6"(n yes, 6.1" can be counted in too)
above that its just a tablet with calling functionality

the goat farther, 02 Mar 2013It is a simple fact that 4.7 inch is not a phabletAn opinion, actually. There is no direct definition for phablet in terms of screen size. If anything, it's more determined by its intended purposes.

AnonD-119374, 02 Mar 2013clearly you have never used swipe on smartphones keyboard..In fact, I have. Even with my small hands, I can swipe the whole QWERTY artificial keyboard with one hand on a Note II. Don't really believe western people (people who are physically bigger than Asians) couldn't do that. No insult meant, but hold your phablet right, you'll realize you can use them easily with one hand. Don't know about the 6"+ phablet like Ascend Mate, but 5.5" ones are still one-hand operable.

Sam, 02 Mar 2013Maybe you're not looking carefully enough, or you are just ... morehe meant constantly, if you understand that word you will know he didn't meant to use 2 hands from time to time. There are phones you can operate with just one hand most of the time and there are phones you cannot, you will constantly need 2 hands to work with them. Even to properly answer a call without being scared that you will drop it, you will need 2 hands with this type phablets, trablets marblets... so, i think he meant those phones...

I have never seen anyone typing on their smartphones with one hand no matter how small their smartphones are (Sony Ericsson Xperia mini included).

AnonD-90736, 01 Mar 2013I'm so looking forward to these 5.5" and above phablet... moreIt's called the nexus 7. You don't really have to wait.

This trend is silly bornt by the increasingly better yields of screen manufacturers, trumping completely the need of the consumers, which was greater portability and better ergonomics. Which gotta show how little the consumers' real needs matter and how easily they're replaced by manufactured (literally in this case) needs.

The iPhone is the last phone sized, ergonomic phone: too bad it runs a shitty os that'd better die asap...

I learned one thing while using different phones: I have big hands. My Optimus L9 has a 4.5" screen, and most of Android's activities require pixel-precise thumb taps for me.

How is the Fonepad a phablet?
7 inch tablets with phone capabilities has been around for years.
anything bigger than 6.9 is definately a tablet. And below that, I can't set an exact number. I see no reason why some company could not release a 6.8" tablet.

The definition of phablet, should be that is reasonble to expect average sized people should be able to cramp it in to a pocket (skinny jeans and such excluded). And above 6" that is hard.

I agree with acer: GS2 sized phone is considered a phone and GS3 sized phone is considered a phablet. =)
