Motorola X not a phone, but a brand to rival the Galaxy lineup

The GS4 is very disappointing, there's still room to make a near perfect phone, but at a $299 base it will definitely have some corners to cut. 128 gb on board storage is where I would start to consider a phone with no sd, which I would probably not use but rather be safe than start to juggle content. Waterproof is a must have for me as I've destroyed all my phones from dust and moisture. Although I like getting a new phone every year or less, it would be nice to spend the money on something else. I don't wear protection it lessens the experience, so no cases for me.

The brand name "Motorola" does not have a good impression among the world. So, even if they launch something really good, it will take years to build up the face value.

google has to cut their pockets for advertisements, marketing n everywhere availability of their moto x to beat galaxy series... sony is now focussing on marketing so it has ability to catch samsung but still seems too far to reach where samsung is today...

1- The Nexus series is a necessary evil. Ideally, it must end when there are handsets with its qualities: no bloat, pure AOSP with Google Apps and especially good hardware support, for the same reasons that --- thankfully --- Lenovo and Dell don't make their own operating systems.
2- Be wary of any Motorola promises, don't count with that egg which is still in the chicken. Hopefully, with Google in the helm, things will be different.
3- I don't know if carriers (american ones, that is) will willingly lose control of their subsidized phones. If the phone comes from Play, it doesn't even make sense, it's not any different from now. However, if they mean even the subsidized ones, I seriously doubt it.
Maybe this is just a rumor.

So, NO More Nexus series ?
It all makes sense to aquire Motorola. Pricing is Key factor, if there are multiple devices in the X series, the low end and mid range phones should pose some competition to the galaxy series.
But samsung has an advantage, its available globally. Google + moto have to work real hard to penetrate into markets.

May sounded too optimistic a date for an official announcement of the phone (it's probably just a moniker and will be callled something else in the end) but we can hope I guess.
HTC rose to the top of Android when they released the first Nexus, followed by similar success by Samsung. People are starting to pay more attention to LG now, even as Samsung continue their reign. Maybe Motorola will really be back in business this year.

AnonD-79661, 16 Mar 2013Sony? With what? Sony has nothing to compete with the Galax... morePff HTC is dead, Samsung has no worries. Sony is now the second android manufacturer in the west (Huawei is the second but mainly in asia), so they are Samsung biggest with Apple threats. HTC flagship are not selling well and the One is delayed in some country, Samsung must be laughing at HTC. HTC is so affrayed that their executives are making bashing comments on the S4. Nokia, LG, HTC and Motorola are not even in the top 5 smartphone manufacturers
