Yes, but one is evil, the other is an angel.
One wants to sell your personal data to marketers, the other just wants to code for the betterment of all humanity. One puts proprietary code to criple forkers, the other posts every line of code out there free of cost for you to make your own forks like edubuntu, mint etc.

I already run Ubuntu on my Android phone. Looking at the Ubuntu phone UI in this video, it looks clumsy and difficult. Swipe from left? Will I get a dock or a page flip? Who even knows. Swipe from top, oops stuck. Try again....

I'd only get this phone if I could replace the UI with something that doesn't suck. Otherwise, I'll probably be looking at running an AOSP build of Android so I can be free of the Google spyware all over the place in stock Android. I'll keep running Ubuntu chrooted on it. Also, my next phone will be 64bit Tegra K1. 192 CUDA cores will be awesome for R + rpud.

Ubuntu will drain more battery than WP(like any android). Speaking of speed and stability ubuntu is few steps behind Windows 8, just because it is linux dosent mean it is fast. It requires min 512 mb of ram. This new 13.10 Ubuntu is massive and overloaded. And yes boot of Windows 8 for me works in 5 sec without bios included on a regular hdd. It is logical. Microsoft is large, full of experts, And has a big support. Personally when i look at ubuntu mobile i see android with modern ui, and some stolen tricks form another operating systems. Sorry. They are to late in all this stuff. If Apple didnt do a big leap forward after Iphone 4, what Canonical can do really?

AnonD-197293, 10 Jan 2014Very good news ! Now about Ubuntu and it's performance. Wel... moreI need to weigh in here and be a voice of reason without all the fanboyism and ranting.

The truth is, if you have one game running on both Ubuntu (or really any UNIX OS) and windows on the same hardware and setting, it will be smoother/faster on Ubuntu. It's also lighter weight, faster overall, generally speaking and does offer many options for casual and business users alike.

As was mentioned, however, it severely lacks developer support, and this is why I don't use it. in fact, it is still the case that most games many people might want to play are not available on Ubuntu (or linux in general) My laptop, which is not for gaming, does run it however.

I have little opinion about the mobile OS, and look forward to building those opinions on the performance and features of it when I try it.

Very good news ! Now about Ubuntu and it's performance. Well don't bash something you clearly don't know what you're talking about. Ubuntu is one of the best running OS available. OS itself it simply better in all aspects than Windows, you do know backbone of Ubuntu is the same as Mac OS right, but most likely you don;t and this is news for you. But that's fine. UNIX is something that Windows will never have, it's the way it operates. Now let me say this, there are a lot of issues with a lot of things but none of them compare to problems with Windows platform. Only problem I see is because of relatively low customer and user base compare to Windows and Mac users developers are not eager to spend time on something that may not sell or may not worth time. Now I think one of THE most important aspects of OS is Gaming, that's right Games. They require performance and maximum effort from Developers, hardware engineers and all involved to get one to run smooth. With Steam I can now see huge potential and after looking at Metro: Last Light game running 100 fps on Ubuntu, well this is Amazing ! Put it this way. Ubuntu right now, right this second can do EVERYTHING that Windows can. Work wise it's unbeatable, multimedia is all there, with Steam most of the games are here for you to play, once we have Major game developers like EA, Blizzard, Ubisoft develop games with OpenGL support just think about what it could do. WoW runs Native on Ubuntu, or Playing Black Flag .....I could dream ....well or install wine :P

Anyhow for me Ubuntu is future and I feel permanent change is ahead of us.
