AnonD-324, 28 Jan 2014What do you mean by sideloading apps. How does that work... moreIt means getting the app, putting it in your phone and installing it instead of downloading/installing it directly from Play.

If only one could go back in time..say two years back and Nokia had the good sense to go with Android or make devices for both platforms. We would all be talking of a resurgence profitable Nokia and would all be now looking fwd to their 2014 Flagship device or devices.

As an engineer that worked on S40 for almost 9 years before my job was (e)lopped off, I can see that this could be just a simple way to cut costs. Having a code base that is (mostly) maintained by others is a way to save a lot of internal engineer jobs. This should be looked at as a competition with Windows Phone but rather a cheap replacement of S40.

Android without Google services? What a fat joke should in case it turns out to be true. I think Nokia executives will forever regret that Microsoft deal! I rather keep using some android applications on my BlackBerry Z 10!

Anonymous, 28 Jan 2014I guess Nokia has failed to grasp the concept of openness, ... moreLets see how open will be Android once they close the root option from newer Android releases, I see Android is taking out the way of a closed OS.

I guess Nokia has failed to grasp the concept of openness, something android is all about. First windows phone , now this . It's a major improvement over windows phone obviously , but it's not great , not by a long shot. It's like these people have an itch only filing for bankruptcy can scratch.

AnonD-4697, 28 Jan 2014This Nokia X will use the Android base but not Googles gapp... moreAll android apps should be available, except from Nokia store, like how Kindle uses Amazon store, yet still runs android and android apps. If you install .apk file, it will most probably work just fine.

Aka, 28 Jan 2014It never gonna happen. Microsoft will ever release Nokia wi... moreThis Nokia X will use the Android base but not Googles gapps. So will not have access to Play Store at all....thats why is an Forked Android Version, NOT the official Google Android version.

This is the part people dont get it.

Nokia X Will have just the codes from Android but not the rest of the services in Google.

No problems with Microsoft or Google at all since Android is free to be used or modded. But not the Google services like Play Store, Google Maps and so on...so forget download your fav apps from the play store, that will not happen.

If everything lines up properly it could just be the ultimate Android budget phone (with zero compromise).

camdir, 28 Jan 2014Why nokia x is not google certified?can anyone explain.Because Nokia does not want to promote the Google Play store neither Google services, they want to promote their own store with Nokia and Microsoft services (just like Amazon did with their Kindle Fire).

That what Google certification is all about.

anyway its Nokia, expect good housing and hardware, in terms of quality and lifespan.

if this is really an android, then the abscence of playstore is just okay because we can still get resource/apps from other sites.
maybe it is a good thing that they have done that for security reason perhaps.
symbian/meego porting/emulation would be a good feature since google is out of the way.
