28 February, 2014
Acer VP for Smartphones requires the OS to become more popular before making a serious commitment.

    keep hoping bro...
wp may have all features of android in 2015 or 2016 maybe.
as long as it is not open source it is of limited use.
shame that in 2014 wp users are hoping for notification n quick toggles.

don't know if they will put forward navigation button in explorer or not.

    opera mini is missing.

    video sharing over bluetooth sucks.
dont know whether ussd menu are accessible or not.

I agree with Acer. The market share will only grow if the customers are interested, and/or if the phones are sold at a budget price (as the Lumia 520).

To gain consumer interest, it must be a mature platform. At the moment it is not, however WP 8.1 seems to be. If they can release that as soon as possible, then work on getting their OS on par with iOS/Android; they should have no issues.

I think Acer strategy make sense. I too as consumer don't want to invest on OS with questionable future.

But remember we're talking about EU where WP currently have more than 10% overall market share. WP has become 2nd most popular OS in several countries accross Latin America and EU as well as India. In other words, global market share doesn't always tell the whole truth. Honestly iPhone's market share is only because of the US monopoly as well as great performance in China and Japan. But everywhere else you really don't see stellar performance from this company

Okay, thanks Acer. I don't want your WP based phone. I've enough choice from only one OEM and that is, Nokia.

AnonD-205075, 28 Feb 2014But didn't Sony sell the Vaio brand? Correct me if I'm wrong. They sold their PC division. Does that equal to Vaio brand, I'm not sure. They did say they are going into overdrive regarding smartphone market, so WP should be next logical move. After that they could even try something like Firefox OS or Ubuntu Mobile, who knows.

I do think WP8.1 will be great and more importantly put the platform on equal footing with Android (it's more direct competitor). However, I think the analysts forecasts and predictions are off; and since when have analysts been accurate? Answer: rarely.

In any case competition is good either way.

I am a proud owner of a lumia 822. Everything that the OS was missing is being added by the windows phone 8.1 update to come in april. After this update, I believe windows phone will be even ahead of android with several exclusive features of its own. e.g. choosing apps that can run in the background even in battery saver mode. a way way better camera than android. call+sms filter.
I believe windows phone is the next big thing in the mobile world.
