You may think the software is useless I think it'd just needed. I had the nexus 5 for 2 weeks and really loved it AFTER I had to install a custom dialer and custom sms app. The such nexus dialercan't even send a text meagre from the number yyou've just topped, can't add the number to a new contact our existing, can't access the contacts list. The stock SMS atop can't make predefined SMS or schedule to send asks. Are you kidding me? Is like 1995 all over again.
Scree the nexus line for the simple fact that it doesn't have an sd card. If the phone beaks ( is dropped, falls in water or just gets fried from a faulty charging circuit or any other reason) then there no way to recover the files on it. And no i any to neck up to the cliff and no I don't carry my PC/laptop in my pants to make beck ups evey 2 minutes of every puppy I take on a vacation. And no I don't want to use a dslr camera.

Its more of a plus,because you have the full power of android on your phone because its not full with bloatware or useless features that you don't even use and only slow down your phone.
That's the reason of these google play edition phones and nexus phones to give you the real experience of android.

Jason , 07 Apr 2014For what reason people want a google play edition?its a marketing tactic.. i have used sammy for a long time and also nexus 4 and 5 in different times, no doubt nexus or play edition phones are fast but since they dont have any layers of UI they sometime feel pathetic, for example. in Samsung u get many free apps thru there store many apps which are priced highly on google play, also, with nexus or play edition you dont get any extra software basically your get stripped version of different models. i was also very eager to use a pure android i dont hate it its cheap and buttery smooth but at the same time i cant deny what other ui offer you with little sacrifice of over the top UI

Play editions are for devs or for people who like pure android. that dosnt mean the rest wont get any updates !!!s4 got 4.4.2 s3 got to 4.3 and waiting for 4.4.2 sony promised to put most of its devices to 4.4.2 offcourse you have to wait but it wont cost u any extra buck !!!

Trust me, it's easy if you know what you're doing. I Successfully upgraded my HTC One to google play just because I don't like HTC's sense interface and also my friend's S4.
