Only 40 million? S3 was sold in 50 million units in the same time : http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_iii_global_sales_reach_50_million_-news-5709.php

And they predicted that they will sell 80 milion till end of 2013, and 4 month after that time, they are only at half of that (if that number of 40 million isn't another lie ) :

One thing you can't be 100% sure is the probability of S4 if not launched region wise, what would be the impact on customers. I can't comment on much since its something nobody knows, never happened so nobody an exactly be sure. However, in terms of S3, don't you think(if count only one variant sold 40 million), S4 didn't sell well?

What Mithrandir and I are saying is "it wouldn't have made a difference whether they only had 1 model or 6 variants, they would've sold the 40 mill". Having the variants made no impact on the sales volume, at least not in terms of sales (maybe meeting the demand with manufacturing). Maybe only to the small "geek" population as they love/hate the Exynos, but generally people don't pick and choose between the variants.

AnonD-5197, 17 Apr 2014"Quite bad compared to S3, isn't it?" I'm not ... moreNope! I have called over the official sales figure of S4, just like S3. Just as you are talking about S4, shouldn't be the same can be said about S3? After all, people are still trading their S3 with an iPhone more than the S4. There is a recent article over it. That's it. All I have to say.

AnonD-5197, 17 Apr 2014S3 had variants too which you seem to completely ignore. AW... moreHow many variants? Did they match the numbers of S4 as we know variants of S4 STILL coming out. My actual point is what you have actually written yourself but failing to understand. S4 does sold 40 million but it took 6 devices to sell over 40 million. Let alone the fact the region based S4, if not the case, would hurt the sales. As reported by GSMArena, the dual-sim variant, when launched over 3G sold more quickly then the 3G variant(single sim).

Apple's key items are flagships. Samsung's key items are low-end Android phones and tabs. They have different organizational approaches. You shouldn't be comparing the two of them. Apple knows that their low-end models(sucks actually) will not sell according to their expectations. Hence, the company made it's policy according to it's history of business. Samsung is a different company where low-end models and tabs boost the balance sheets.

Well, frankly speaking, I also don't know if S4 S800 was included in the number of phones sold but I believe since it was launched in July(I can be wrong) and the reports came out 4 months later. I highly doubt they have not included that in their inventories sold. It would seriously affect their cash flow statements.

Don't get me wrong. I am not a Samsung hater. I dislike their products. We all have our likes and dislikes, I base my arguments over my experience which I had faced with a Note 2 previously owned. It's sold now. I like Nokia as the most favorite company in my list but the S5 is really impressive. Especially the blue-one. If I had the money to own it right now. I would have actually gotten it. It's a flagship by the way...

Mithrandir, 17 Apr 2014You keep going on about the fact that it took 6 variants to... moreYes! The reason I am keep going over that fact is because it's the reality. It's common sense by the way that S4 must have surpassed the 40 million mark way before. I was debating over the official announced figure of the S4's sold. My point on arguing is that S4 is NOT a significant upgrade or premium flagship standard phone like S3(design is ugly). Hence, it sold less.

You have just written what I was talking the whole day. I don't have any stake in how much the S4 sold. The thing is, which we all know, the geeks, that S4 not alone sold 40 million(official figure till now). It took many devices, they are different from others. Hence, different models. It doesn't matter as you say, as I was saying. No need to make it a big problem. The actual point is, S4 despite being sold to the masses wasn't a true successor of S3 considering how much different S3 and S2 were...

You again contradicting yourself. Think before you write. You are writing the same thing I was. Even though they are 6 separate models, which they are, but the reality is, they ARE S4. We know it, you know it, the world know it. What we also know is that its not a SINGLE model S4 that sold 40 millions. It took 6 variants to match that mark. Oh! And I know that if these weren't the variants for various regions, S4 couldn't even reach that much inventory sold considering, the price difference between LTE and 3G models, S600 and S800 models...

You should improve your comprehension understanding skills.

AWS version, CDMA version, GSM, each different carrier versions (i999, GT9200, etc). They categorized all that into S3 for that year as well. They are still selling S3 in that year. They sold 40 mill S4 last year same way they sold S3 previous year. What you are saying just seems like a really pathetic attempt to make a company's numbers look bad when they've been doing the same since Galaxy S2. Galaxy S2 had the most number of variants.

Apple doesn't split up sales for their CDMA and GSM sales figure why should Samsung? HTC doesn't, Sony doesn't. It's also probably more profitable for Samsung to provide differentiated devices to the carriers/region to sell since their manufacturing capacity is much greater than other OEMs. Especially since Samsung attracts consumers by "providing each level of market with a device".

Again, S4 advanced (S8000) is most likely NOT included in the sales figure of S4.

The thing you don't seem to get is that it doesn't really make a difference whether the hardware was slightly different depending on the country you buy the S4 in, it's still pretty much the same phone (same software, same design, only a few differences with the octa, but not something most will notice...) and most people will not even know that the S4 they buy in their own country is different from the S4 someone in another continent would buy.
Even if a tourist with another variant showed his phone, most people would just see a S4, not a i9502, i9500, i9505, ...

That means that even if the S4 was the exact same hardware in every country, the sales number would most likely be the same.

So your argument that you keep spreading across multiple news is pretty much moot..

There is a difference between reality and forcing someone to accept the reality. You read my comprehension, wrong ,mate.

The S4 series, if I would have to exclude mini, zoom, active, neo etc, still, S4 flagship models counts as 9500 9502 9505 9506 + a couple of CDMA versions. These include a total of 6 devices. They all are flagships made for different regions. Means, one is available for a country, second is available for another and same goes for the rest. Concluding, each one of them helped the "S4" reach 40 million sales mark. Now this is my point that like the tremendous S3, S4 didn't sell a single device, 40 million units. There were actually 6 devices contribution in struggling to reach a high sales mark while also keeping the fact in mind that out of 63 million, only 40 millions sold. Comparing it to last year's single device S3 which alone sold 60 million; This is BAD for a company which previously sold 60 millions of a single device and this year, struggling to sell over 40 millions of 6 devices of the same model combined. This is the point that if I am Samsung, I should be worried that my sales are going down YoY.
