Octa-core HTC Desire 616 leaks in cool red

26 March, 2014

Remember HTC's octa-core that revealed itself in the AnTuTu benchmark database? It's called the HTC Desire 616 and today we can take a first look at its photos published by the Chinese TENAA.

It has approved the device to hit the market, which hints that its announcement isn't far away. The Desire 616 looks to be a budget mid-range offering with a 5" 720p display and a 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek CPU with 1GB of RAM. Rather disappointingly, the phone comes with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box.

By the looks of it, HTC is targeting China as the primary market of the Desire 616, but as it often happens, a global version could be available as well later on. At the back, the Desire 616 packs an 8MP camera with LED flash.

The phone measures 142 x 71.9 x 9.1 mm and weighs 150 grams. It doesn't sport front-facing BoomSound speakers, like its bigger brother the One (M8). Now, with the phone having a green light to go on sale in China, we expect it to go official sooner rather than later.

It looks real nice in red. It's a nice design, but I'm not as big a fan of it's standard color. Better than gold though.

But I have to say this is all leaks so by the time it's officially announced, it would probably atleast have 4.3 or newer.

The cut off date for GMS certification of Android 4.2 is 24-Apr-2014, but I get if they certified it already then they could slip 4.2 into this phone. I don't know why they would do that, terrible idea, it's not bad it's not acceptable.
