30 May 2014
We are about to explore the Xperia M2, a smartphone with an agenda of its own. Task number 1 is to upgrade the popular Xperia M. Check. The M2 brings a bigger screen (and ups the resolution), the chipset is better and the camera resolution is higher. The M2 also...

Way too big. Xperia M was almost perfect in size (it had a bit big edges, but it was usable). Now M2 is a phablet. Today ther is no usable phone under 4 inches.
Every 4 inches (or smaller) phone is a crap, whit 512Mb RAM, 3-5 MP fix focus camera, without led, some useless SoC, and horrible screen.
I feel really sorry, for Sony screwed up Xperia M2.

I hope so, that Sony will bring a real successor for the compact Xperia M.

        :(

mish, 05 Jun 2014tell me how is it btr than new galaxy grand neoAlmost everything. Grand Neo has inferior chipset (BCM vs Qualcomm), low res display with giant pixels, and depending on where you live the M2 will give you triband HSDPA+LTE or quad band HSDPA (in india and other non-LTE/TD-LTE markets) while Grand Neo has only dual band HSDPA, which is a very serious limitation. Lots of new HSDPA networks are in the 850 and 1900 bands, its a big deal.

You have to compare M2 to Grand 2 to make it more fair, the Grand Neo loses badly to the M2.

Great display plus well above average battery life. Seems like a great midrange smartphone at that price.

WEIRD thing is: Sony official site says that this model HAS HDMI output to TV. MOST reviews on the net says IT DOES NOT have this function. WHY? Someone who bought this phone can confirm? Thanks a lot in advance!

If you compare it with a LG phone you have to compare it with LG L9 II (D605) not the old L9 (D405).

This seems like a solid device, at a good price. The price is quite a bit better than I expected.

From what I see on those sample photos, Sony is using too high settings for post processing. That's why the edges look so weird and detail is lost. Also why noise is so ugly.

I wonder if one can avoid that by using an alternative camera app... still, though, wtf Sony. How can one screw up camera settings so bad, especially while being in the camera industry.

I noticed GSMarena doesn't seem to test the GPS performance, which is pretty important, imho. Any chance to include some GPS-Tester screenshots and measure the time the M2 needs to get your position as an addition?

Game on screen is Blocky Roads, if anyone is interested.

i think for every review, it should give the measurement of the phone, then i can have immediate idea how large is this phone.

yes, i knew i can check this out at the spec page, but i would have to open another page and come back. why not bring more convenience to readers.

screen size would not tell accurately how the phones measure

i figured out 13.4cm h is the ideal height for me.
