Apple iPad 3 review: Hotter than ever

22 March 2012
So, the iPad is dead, long live the iPad. That's also part of the deal. The retirement of the first-generation of the Apple tablet is nothing out of the ordinary. There used to be the iPad and the iPad 2. Now, we have the iPad and the iPad 2 is the backup, the second choice...

> In reply to Dejavu @ 2012-03-23 08:01 from 0x}N - click to readThe good thing about apple products that they do not become obsolete compared to the new generation, receive official updates longer than any other gadgets on the market and hold their value very well on second hand market. iPad 3 (or new ipad) intended for people who buy their first tablet or upgrade for first generation ipad.

Android tablets on the other hand become obsolete after a few months. Android table owners have to pray to god or relay on android community for an update. Android tablets have fewer apps and no resale value.

The problem with apple haters that they are so blind with anger (why I don't know) that they can't see the fact that iPads give the best value on the market.

This iPad is a failure, it is cooking it self...better call it the iCook. it reaches 48 degrees celcius.
Also when playing a game the battery cannot be charged only when you stop the game otherwise it will keep draining your battery until stop the game.
Also the charger can't keep up with the power drainage!

This iCook is a true FAILURE!

Why benchmark is with iphone for performance. we need benchmark with ipad2.it's really suspicious that new ipad performance is lower than ipad2. In this review GSM arena used ipad2 as benchmark for most comparison except for performance, why? Whether GSM arena is honest with their review?.

Oh God!! the biggest disadvantage in the new IPad is the 15-64 GB Internal Memory with no external storage device to connect to..Apple is also very smart and charges a bomb to upgrade your memory. (with your 1080p HD videos storing upto GBs of memory, there is no alternative to transfer them to external Hard Drives.. except deleting them on the iPAD.. When the world's 70% online apps are using the Adobe Flash Player, this gets the tablet a huge setback for surfing on the Internet.

Why i need quad-code graphics, if after i play graphics demanding games my ipad becomes hot as **** :) or you think quad-core is made for browsing??? :)) Better camera? For me it's still mystical...why the hell i need good camera in tablet (i need only secondary, for video calls). I'm not a hater (i have ipad2 at home), but this apple upgrade is misunderstanding.

Before you judge, you have to do research, compare and then criticize with sense accompanied by citations based on what have learned; if not, then you are just a Troller.

> In reply to Unicorn @ 2012-03-23 03:58 from 3dv5 - click to readYour rationale is absolutely ludicrous.

First of all, having less software than iOS does not mean that Android has no software.

Second, saying that Android tablets are not reasonable alternatives to the iPad because they don't have all of iOS's apps is like saying that Macs should never have been considered as alternatives to PCs because at the time, there were many popular Windows apps that didn't have Mac variants. If everyone thought like you do, Mac OS wouldn't have the rich selection of apps that they do today.

Lastly, looking at market share is of little consequence when making a decision about which tablet to buy. Conversely, it's what people decide to buy that affects the market.

Having said that, I'm still probably going to buy an iPad. I just wish that people would have a little tact. Promoting a product doesn't have to involve slandering another.

First of all, Kodus to gsmarena for giving a neutral review on the New Ipad 3. They did some consumer research first before doing the review. And that's basically the trend nowadays.

So what's up for the New Ipad? Better Resolution, quad-code graphics, and better camera...It helps consumers usage for everday tasks.

Heat issues are no-brainer here. Since we are takling of a 4-core graphics processor and bigger resolution...if you play graphics-demanding games, it will generate heat as any processors are. I'm not sure how the New Ipad handles to dissipate the heat on their components, maybe not like desktop systems with their liquid-cooling or better airflow fans. But if they try to match performance of truly eye-candy desktop systems, they may have to do some software updates on their IOS to cope up with the hardware installed. Apple are good (not better) at fixing things up, either by marketing/suggesting a better alternative or by software updates.

I think iPad is not very user-friendly. The Retina display, improved camera and new GPU are yes i can say awesome. But come to think of it, you'll buy a tablet with limited features? For me, I don't think so. I'm a very heavy user for gadgets so I need a broad world in my tab to do my needs for it.
Go for the one where you can do lot of things..feel free.
I don't want restrictions coz I paid for it.
Sorry apple, i'm disappointed with the new iPad.

I'm surprised that at the end of your review you bring the Samsung tabs and Asus autobot as competing alternatives to the iPad. Most people who use or are interested in using good apps would probably prefer an iPad 1 from 2010 over the useless droid tablets.

You obviously don't understand the whole tablet market at all.

iPads are good at running ios apps in much the same way as MS windows is good at running windows software.

Android on the other hand has no software so it is only good at running its own OS. So in other words Android based Tablets are gadgets.

iPad market share is the proof of that.

Rival pad selections should mention the Toshiba (Excite) AT-200 which is now thinnest Tablet in the world at 7.7 mm thick because 'NEW' ipad got thicker than ipad 2
It is better than ipad 2 in every aspect so it worth a mention

Wonder how other manufacturers will deal with quad core hot boxes. There are iPad's galore every however I still have not come across a real need to have one. I already have 3 mobiles to cover my business travels and iPad or similar does not add any functionality or benefit to what I already have. The problem with all tablets is they all have software limitations what they can really do and even a good netbook can be cheaper and better.
