HTC Desire X review: Needs and wants

11 November 2012
For one reason or another, the One series failed to live up to their potential in terms of actual sales, so HTC turned back to the time-tested Desire line to fill up the coffers and secure some time to regroup. A new attack on the high-end market takes...

I really like this phone; it looks great, it's compact and it has a decent screen. The front facing camera and the 480p video recording don't bother me that much (although the 480p kinda sucks), but I'm quite concerned with the CPU consisting of two a5 cores instead of two a9s.

Desire X seems to perform better than same clocked devices with a9 cores (xperia sola and go), but those benchmarks were taken before the Xperias ICS update, so I still have no idea which of these phones is better performance-wise. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Regarding sound quality, I bought this phone to use as a music player. Unfortunately, the Desire X, as well as most other recent HTC models, seems to suffer from an unacceptable level of constant white noise whenever the sound circuit is active. This is immediately noticable if volume is muted and using higher quality, low impedance earphones (but also if listening carefully to the internal speaker). Unfortunately for anyone who cares how their music sounds, this is likely a dealbreaker. I'm not sure how the measurements in this review were made, but they certainly don't reflect real world performance.

why gsmarena didn't review about storage encryption ? this phone support it, because not all ICS device support storage encryption.

regarding lock screen, lockscreen shortcut can be customized, but as long as you use htc launcher.

I use launcher7, so after I restart, those lockscreen shortcut gone (because htc launcher didn't load).

of course I can use go locker or other custom lockscreen, but those usually not as secure as OS lockscreen, in some case those custom lockscreen can be bypassed.

Really looked at this phone when I was buying a new handset. Spec-wise it was about what I needed and it looked like a solid phone, but eventually I found the Sony Xperia U a nicer (looking) phone for about 100 euros less.

FIRST TIME EVER i see this! i would like HTC to produce some stand alone DAPs like this (and GSMARENA to test them -and the ipods, there's no tests on the net that i know...).

price wise the ace and the sola are the first and only choices, this is a bit more fancy with the design bt nothing special to deserve the extra cash it costs

Anonymous, 12 Nov 2012Can anybody explain???Why can't it record 720p even though ... moreIts the processor architecture which does not support 720p, not that htc couldn't develop the libs or kernels. But the actual question is why put a chip which cannot record 720p when there are better out there, real bummer. Ace 2 all the way. The ace 2 is really underrated, its an excellent phone made by samsung, nothing too fancy, retains ace form factor and design and its fully functional and lastly is getting jelly bean too.

Can anybody explain???Why can't it record 720p even though its dual core...even HTC one V with single preocessor can do that...

also the benchmark scores are on par with other Cortex-A9 dual cores...so why no 720p???

In my country for 200 euros you can get the Acer cloudmobile which is way better than this.
