I am in the same position as you. I live in the UK and use EE as my supplier.
I had (note the past tense) a S4 which I was silly enough to upgrade to v4.3, and it wasn't until afterwards that I found out about the KNOX spyware that comes with it. Some people might say 'If you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear', which is true; but I resent that the fact that Samsung are installing an app designed by the American NSA (National Security Agency) to spy on your movements without your permission.
I am using my S3 (v4.1.2) until Amazon get the Motorola Moto G 16Gb model in stock.
You are wise to stay with v4.2.2 - v4.3 is NOT a great improvement.

The jelly bean update 4.3... moredont be concerned about NSA spyware embedded in updates ..ALL smartphones shall get "spyware" via updates of some sorts very soon .. samsung region locks are samsung DONE ..method in samsung madness is simple - NOT wonna honour 2yrs international warranty out of regions - costs money !

          Thanks for the message. The jelly bean update 4.3.0012 has spyware. I think what your saying is that all samsung devices in America is locked with android 4.3.0012 by the networks at&t verizon, t mobile and sprint. Im so so sorry that everybody is having problems there.

          I have 4g in the UK which is fantastic although it drains a bit of battery. T Mobile is also in UK and Germany. We have EE Which is the first 4G LTE network, tmobile has emerged with them

          What your saying is that the UK and European and other international versions are safe as y8u said dont worry about spyware. So reckon I should get the s4 Lte, but not update to 4.3 because that would be ok as there wouldnt be any spyware in android version 4.2.2 original version on my tmobile contract.

              reports today - serious problems in USA with ATT and VERIZON s4 4.3 updates -now SUSPENDED .. ALSO SERIOUS problems with 4.3 update for galaxy s3 (suspended).. international versions carriers bloatwares free donot seem affected ..SUGGEST- please speak to your contracted network for the best deal for 4G services for upgrade ..then compare with deal offered by say- carphonewarehouse - but carphonewarehouse may not offer TECH SUPPORT which MAIN NETWORKS provide .. I would go for 5inches screen or bigger handset . s4 -gt-i9505 is still good bet . dont worry about spyware . region lock issue but can always carry a spare (cheaper )unlocked handset for international out of region travels .. sun in the horizon ..cheers.

                  I was looking at the Galaxy s4 mini that any good? it only has android version 4.2.2 and does not mention about jelly bean 4.3 or 4.3.0012 spyware upgrade which is ok. Im with a contract.

                  You said the apple customer service are ok, does that mean their iphone s good, the 5s and 5c? Hows the battery life standby days? Ive never had an iphone before. My dad has a 4s.

                    2- samsung s4- gt-i9505- very good phone but A- 30% known to have battery overheating /swelling problems =samsung has admitted and allowed free battery replacement via samsung service centers ..B-4.3.0012- update region locks the phone + spyware embedded ..
                    SPYWARE- NSA usa and international policy..
                    samsung misinformations half truths uncaring arrogant attitudes bad responses ==very bad aftersales customercare services (AS REPORTED worldwide)

                    personal experience customer services - apple ok .. samsung not ok .. sony - just ok /not ok ..
                    I sense you are in ? UK .. buy unlocked international version without network bloatwares.. try MAJOR ONLINE SELLERS ..or for upgrades ? go for 4G best networks deals (WITH HIGH DATA ) ..

                      The battery in my phone S4 is horrible it does not last more 5 hours even I am using program (GO power master ) for saving the battery ..............My old Huawei phone battery was really better and last for all the day with fully surfing the Internet ............... I am depressed of my purchase ........

                        It is a good phone. You just need a little bit more time to use it. May you didn't use any another phone. Battery is not so bad. It last usually day.                           Does anyone can help me my s4 is not working properly the camera is giving problems cause when I go to take pictures it freezes I don't know what's the problem but the front camera works perfectly help me please.....

                            I was planning to get a samsung phone as im upgrading / renewing 24mths contract this chirstmas. I dont want to get the wrong phone and be miserable, regreting it for the next 2 years, you what I mean.

                            Samsung are going to down just like blackberry as their phones were not selling well and not making profits. Its all going be on the news and papers all around the world.

                            They need to get thier acts together and protect thier customers who have thier phones and not put spywares and malwares.

                            i think the best option is not to update to 4.3.0012. Just leave android it to 4.2.2 origional os I guess.

                            People on here said to me that Windows Phones have spyware and malware. They put me off as I was also thinking of gettinga windows phone. My options are ruined.

                            Any advice?

                            Im looking for a phone that has long lasting battery and a camera with flash and front facing camera for Skype.

                                      I fear you are right. The recent update fiasco, plus the KNOX and Region Lock abomination will be the start of the end of Samsung's dominance in the phone market.
                                      Samsung have become so arrogant in believing that they can dictate to us what we want that I can see loyal owners, (include me in that), leaving in droves.
