Synaptics: Wearabales with fingerprint sensors coming in 2015

Fingerprint scanners on mobile devices are on the rise lately. After Apple announced its Touch ID-packing iPhone 5s the feature has been in the spotlight and while many have questioned its usability, there was obviously enough positive feedback for both HTC and Samsung to implement it in some of their products.

Now, courtesy of one of the sensor manufacturers Synaptics, we are hearing that fingerprint sensors might land on wearables. The company CEO Rick Bergman spoke to the press in Taiwan yesterday and said that he expects to see a fingerprint scanning smartwatch in 2015.

It should be pointed out that the only client that Synaptics has managed to score for its sensors so far is Samsung, so if that prediction is to be fulfilled, we guess it would have to be the Koreans who deliver the product.

Mr Bergman said that "Using fingerprint ID sensors for a small curved display is not a big challenge", which adds more credence to those rumors. So far Samsung is the only company to release a curved display wearable - its Galaxy Fit.

Another interesting piece of info brought by Mr Bergman is that Synaptics is going to introduce its first area-type fingerprint scanner in the second half the year. The area-type sensors work in the same way as Touch UI, requiring you to only place your finger over them, rather than swipe it. Could we see one of those in the Galaxy Note 4?

Clearly these are only speculations at this point, but we you can't deny they sound reasonable.
