100 million voice calls are made in WhatsApp every day

Vlad, 23 June, 2016

After many tests and limited beta releases, WhatsApp finally launched voice calling for all Android users in March of 2015, followed by the same feature making it to iPhones about one month later.

And it turns out that this has been quite a successful new addition to WhatsApp. That's because now, a year and three or so months later, the Facebook-owned messaging service has unveiled a staggering statistic.

As the promotional image above makes obvious, WhatsApp users are at this point making more than 100 million voice calls each and every day. That means WhatsApp handles over 1,100 calls per second - all day, every day. The company says it's humbled by the response the feature has received, and it's vowed to work on making it even better in the following months. WhatsApp is no stranger to big milestone numbers of course - having passed 1 billion active users at the beginning of February.
