5G iPhones can still launch on schedule, Foxconn says it's making up for lost time

We've heard it from insiders, but now confirmation comes straight from the horse's mouth - Foxconn officially confirmed that the production of the 5G iPhones is likely to start on schedule for the Fall launch of the new handsets.

Foxconn is Apple's primary partner in the manufacturing of iPhones. It had to close its factories for a month due to the COVID-19 outbreak, but has already resumed normal operations. Still, there was worry that this delay might have disrupted the development process.

The company is working with Apple's engineers to make up for lost time, says Alex Yang, Foxconn's investor relations chief. However, he cautions that "if there’s a further delay in the next few weeks, months, then you probably have to reconsider launching time. It’s still possible."

Usually, trial assembly starts in June to help iron out any production issues, then mass production kicks off in August so that the phones are ready for a September release. Of course, Apple wants to launch on schedule as it needs to catch up to the competition in the 5G race.
