Gingerbread ROM for HTC Desire Z leaks, you can try it now

31 March, 2011

We have some good news for of you, impatient owners of HTC Desire Z out there, waiting for a Gingerbread update. There is an HTC test ROM available for download, but only for those brave enough to manually install it on their precious devices.

Initially it was said to be an official ROM that just leaked prematurely, but latest reports suggest that it's just a testing ROM that wasn't meant for public use.

Still early adopters say that the leaked ROM is running quite well and there seems to be an improvement in reception. However that seems to come at the expense of higher battery consumption.

By the way, HTC seems to have found a way to improve those boot times even further. As long as you don't remove the battery after you have booted once, the smarphone now loads up instantly on subsequent boots.

And rest assured - the HTC Sense is still spraying it magic all over the place. The ROM is also available for users of T-Mobile G2 - the U.S. sibling of the Desire Z.

Check out the source link for download links and instructions, but only proceed with flashing if you really know what you are doing.

That's weird. My reception is fine at this moment. I won't update my Android to have a shorter battery life for sure.
