After Oreo update, no Sony Xperia phone will have 'night mode' option

Himanshu, 16 February 2018

Sony's Xperia XA1 series of phones come with a "Good night actions," feature through which users can reduce the blue light of the display. However, the company has now confirmed that the functionality will be stripped off in the Oreo update.

The confirmation came in the form of a response to a user-query on Twitter.

Plus, the company also said there are currently no plans to add such a feature to other Xperia phones.

Now, given that the feature in question is currently only limited to the Xperia XA1 lineup, the aforementioned confirmation means none of the company's smartphones will have blue light filtering functionality post the Oreo update.

For what it's worth, Sony had introduced a ‘Night Light’ mode in its concept builds sometime back, but never brought that feature into its stable software channel. As you can see in the screenshot above, the company is now suggesting users to go for third-party night mode applications.

Hands on reviews of the XZ2 compact launched yesterday shows a 'night light' functionality under display settings.

I wasn't talking strictly about rooting, but using other apps than Sony's. Also in some cases rooting is better using Sony device than for any other.
