Anonymous, 22 Mar 2011Does this have unlimited SMS storage?SMS Storage capacity: OT-255 500 SMS (of 160 character each sms max, if the sms is greater, the sms capacity is less). OT-255D 100 SMS (500 SMS for SIM1 and 500 SMS for SIM2. So, total capacity is 1000 SMS, but separated for each SIM).

pnoy, 04 Feb 2011im intersted on buying this as an back-up phone, only quest... moreI am using this mobile for a while now. I have found it be excellent for texting messages. The EZi text feature has a good prediction function and the keys are soft and very responsive, more importantly keys are well spaced from each.

I received my Alacatel-255D just two days ago. I bought this handset from ebay.in. The seller had got this handset for purchases from Benneton as part of promotion offer. The seller sold it for 1600 Rs. I have been always been a fan of alcatel mobile designs. no other mobile look so stylish and have good built quality. The qwerty keys are well spaced and laid out unlike the other existing models like nokia E63 , E72 in which keys are crammed and tiny (people with bigger indexes like me would certainly agree on this fact). Here are my list of pros and cons.
Pros:
QWERTY keys well spaced - comfortable to use
Can store up to 1000 contacts in phone memory
Dual SIM feature
Compact and Intuitive design with simple UI Interface
FM radio with RDS
GPRS connectivity - connection got established immediately without any hassles
Good collection of utilities - Voice memo, notes, organizer, weather forecast
TFT Display - bright and clear
Has a Quick access button to access messages, FM, Email account.
Cons:
Very less internal memory - only 2MB
Only 650 maH battery - lasts only for three days on standby mode
No camera - could have included a VGA camera.
Does not support any JAVA apps
Final verdict: It is a great phone for those who are looking for a basic phone with dual SIM, FM and QWERTY keys. A budget phone which has loads of features. Good value for money.

Well, I have just readen the manual and now its not 10 of 10. The SAR of the phone is 1.2 W/Kg, quite high!!! So my new result is 8 of 10. Anyway still a good buy!

I have just received my Alcatel OT 255 for only 19.99 euros with 5 euros to use. My experience with Alcatel was not very good in the past because of the dificult menus it usually have. But The OT 255 is very diferente, with quite intuitive menus, and highly configurable. For me (I only call and send sms and sometimes listen FM) is the PERFECT phone. I always wanted a phone like this, with it's QWERTY keyboards! My result: 10 of 10 by the moment. Also know of other customers with battery life very good, so I say again 10 of 10. Nokia is getting each time poorer low cost phones, while other like Alcatel are making a great job!

Just bought equivalent (vodafone 345txt)- don't use phone for anything except call/txt. Got it cause hate txting on normal phones - now a joy! Tried lots of querty slider/touch/bberry type phones & so far this best. Don't mistype, keys light up bright, display clear. Very simple menu. Only bugbear a bit quiet on speaker and ringtones & some icons on display v small. Nice to have handsfree headset. Compact, does what it says on tin for basic use (not all of us need bells & whistles!)and dirt cheap - love it!
