The OT-E259 was a basic and entry-level phone even for its day - I owned one until early 2009, when even by then it was somewhat of an antique. Although the clamshell design is a satisfying build and in general it's easy to use, the progress of phones in the last few years have made this now essentially worthless. No internet, camera or indeed really anything except for a phone and a couple of games makes it an unwise purchase even as a spare or for a young child/elderly pensioner. If you really need a non-smart, completely basic phone, get something like the Nokia 100 instead, available new for a tiny amount (a few pounds) with a sturdy exterior, a huge stand-by time and a better purchase all-round. This instead belongs in a museum.

+ Big keys on keyboard, that's all positive

-Poor reception(not at all on mountain),it freeze and shut down by himself, battery life is 2 days, screen is disaster, and finaly it's firmware is slow like a turtle.

So if you want to buy this phone you are totaly crazy.

Markus, 21 Jan 2006And another Low End phone of TCL/Alcatel. I think its enoug... moreEnough? As I said in a previous comment, it's for the low end users. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that they should automatically stop making them. Invest in a better phone if that's what you want. Honestly. Most sales are for this type!

What do you want for £14.99? An iPhone? That's why these phones have a small price tag. They're cheap, easy to use and great for those just wanting to make the occasional phone call and a couple o' texts. You get what you pay for. Dip a little further into your savings and invest in a phone with bells 'n' whistles if that's what you want. Read the spectifications. my biggest problem is battery . The phone is still in good working condition. unfortunately the battery is not available in my town area. assist on how i can get it. i bought the kaphone from UK though i no longer live there. i may be forced to forget about this phone if i dont get a new battery, probably two so i can keep one for emergency.

it is a good phone handy for children as it is cheap and easy to use. it is also good as it has all the features that someone would need to make phone calls and send texts.

I wanted a phone for SMS and occasional phone calls that wouldn't turn itself on as it rattled round the bottom of my handbag. It does the job, and it cost 59 euros including the initial talk time. I'm not complaining!

bought ot for my young son because of the compact clamshell design, large buttons and simple screen/menu options. Battery life on mine seems reasonable. No WAP therefore no new games or MP3 tones but I have downloaded new poly tones from t-mobile (T-zone tone of the week = £1 per week) only problem is that I don't know what is coming next and cannot choose before I buy - good beginner phone - what do you expect for £23 ??

MM, MM! DO NOT buy it! It has no bluetooth no camera no MP3 player and only 16 VERY ANNOYING ringtunes. It's not got WAP so you can't download ANYTHING! Looking for good games? Continue your search for this phone has NO good games it has got 2 (Russia,Bricks) and they're terrible! NO DOWNLOADABLE GAMES as I said! Have I convinsed you not to buy it yet? I bought it and it was the biggest mistake I ever made! I don't want you doing the same thing!

                              1. The battery life is awful it lasts for only around 7 hours

                              2. The menu display is really poor.

                              3. The memory for storing text messages is just not good enough.

                              4. The phone is just too fragile.

Small phone with only the necessary functions as calling and texting. But stand up time only less than 4 days (80 hours). My phone doesn't go even half way to promised 270 hours.
BTW, has anyone tried Nokia charger to this phone? Looks like it might fit but I'm afraid the phone might get broken if I try. And why Nokia charger? Because I have many Nokia chargers all around here so it would be easy to charge if it works:-)

Bought a couple of months ago as a 'back-up' gsm just for sending text messages, my 6th Alcatel in ten years. Use a BenQ for day-to-day calls, but the OT-E259 has got to be the worlds most friendly for sms. One major fault - compared to the earlier Alcatel 7** series, and only relevant if you're in a Francophone country: if you have language settings on EN but you are typing an sms in FR (and 75% of my sms's are in FR), you can't get the accents/characters (é, è, à, ç etc.) without reconfiguring the language setting - if you try in the middle of the sms you lose all the text you've typed before. Other than that - and it's a most suprising defect from France's #1 supplier - go for it.
