Amazon UK will trade you a Fire Phone for a £100 bill

15 May, 2015

At this point making "fire sale" jokes will be like shooting fish in a barrel. The Amazon Fire Phone is offered at a massive, nearly 70% discount in the UK where Amazon shoppers can snag it for just £99, £180 if you want 64GB storage.

The base phone comes with a reasonable 32GB (no expansion slot). The phone has killer specs for the price – a 4.7" 720p screen with unique (if gimmicky) 3D Dynamic Perspective effects, a powerful Snapdragon 800 chipset, a capable 13MP/1080p camera with optical stabilization and stereo speakers.

You can't get that on a Moto E. What you can get with the Moto offering is stock Android though - the Fire Phone runs Fire OS, which has been completely de-Googled and turned into an Amazon storefront in your pocket. The OS was only recently updated to a KitKat base. There's no CyanogenMod ROM yet, but you can root the phone and at least change the launcher.

You have until 4PM on May 22 to decide if you can live with that. Here's a link to the 32GB model and one for the 64GB model. Note that the phone is locked to O2. Normally, you'd get Amazon Prime for a year (£80 of value) if you buy a Fire Phone, but that paragraph has gone missing.
