Another official Xiaomi Mi 9 photo surfaces. Price info and camera setup details as well

Victor, 16 February 2019

Xiaomi has made sort of a habit of high-ranking employee teasers for its upcoming phones over the past few weeks. And while the social "campaign" for the Mi 9 flagship comes nowhere near the fruit-themed video series that preceded the Redmi Note 7 launch, company CEO Lei Jun did already publish a few official images of the phone.

In a similar development, Lin Bin - Xiaomi president and co-founder posted what he says is an actual device photo as well. Unfortunately, it is just the one still, but it does show off a different color option for the upcoming Mi 9. One that can probably be best described as a deep gray. Although, naturally, the final naming will come courtesy of Xiaomi during the launch event.

Speaking of which, the latter is already scheduled for February 20. So, the wait is almost over and we'll get to see whether the smooth curves on the back of the Mi 9 really do look as stylish as photos and renders make them out to be. One thing that we will note is that despite their apparent openness with Mi 9 teasers, Xiaomi employees are yet to show an image of the front of the phone. Likely in an attempt to keep at least a little sense of mystery alive, since the question of a notch on the front of the phone used to be a highly-debated one.

That being said, few things actually remain unknown regarding the Mi 9. A set of high-quality hands-on photos already showcased most angles of the device. Including the "tear drop" style display notch. While definitely a plus, the small size of the notch likely means the Mi 9 won't feature any advanced 3D face-scanning hardware, like the one introduced on the Mi 8 Pro.

The Mi 9 will, however, come sporting a triple camera setup - 48 MP Sony IMX 586 + 12MP Telephoto + 16MP Wide-Angle, which we already have a few pretty impressive sample photos from. Lei Jun previously suggested the flagship will have faster charging than the Redmi Note 7’s 18W, so we expect to see 27W, if the listing from 3C is correct. Other expected specs are Snapdragon 855 chipset with the X24 modem. RAM+storage would start from 6/64GB and go up from there to 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB.

Apparently the normal version of the handset will retail for CNY 2,499, which right now translates into about $369 or €326. The next two memory tiers are said to cost CNY 2,899 and CNY 3,499, respectively. There will also be a variant with a transparent back, allegedly to be priced at CNY 5,999 ($885 or €785).

MIUI used to be cleaner. They should explore going back to that, at least for global ROM.

Some people are just data hoarders. Even if they take 100 photos of the same subject in order to get just one usable photo out of those, they will not delete the rest. If they go on vacation they will take photos of all kind of random stuff that they...
