Apple iPad Pro rumored to come with Apple A8X chipset

25 September, 2014

A report from Taiwan suggests that Apple's long-rumored iPad Pro with a 12.9" display will be powered by an A8X chip. It'll be slightly more powerful than the current A8 chipset residing in the iPhone 6 duet and will also carry 2GB of RAM.

Apple did have a tradition of outing an "X" version of its chipset to the A5 and A6, but skipped the X version with the A7. According to the report, the A8 will have an A8X successor and it will be made by TSMC.

If Apple is indeed planning a 12.9" iPad Pro, an update to the graphics department in the A8 chip will be a necessary step to ensure those extra pixels will get the push they need.

Traditionally, Apple announced updated iPad line-up after its big iPhone event and the main star of the show is rumored to be the iPad Air 2. A dummy of the slate popped up a while ago and showed a thinner body and slightly altered design of the speakers.
