Apple now expected to increase iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max production

According to analysts from investment bank Morgan Stanley, Apple is bound to imminently increase production of the iPhone 17 series. For 2025, it will up the order from 84-86 million units to a number in the low 90 millions.

The production increase will focus primarily on the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, as demand for the iPhone Air has so far been lower than predicted. But, if this report is accurate, Apple underestimated how many people would want to buy a Pro or Pro Max, and is now going to adapt to increased market demand for those models.

Morgan Stanley analysts think demand for the iPhone 17 models is coming primarily from owners of very old iPhones, and they expect that even more users will be in that category next year. This will bode well for the upcoming iPhone 18 models and the foldable iPhone that's also expected to make its debut in late 2026.

The company now expects Apple to sell 243 million iPhones next year, but hedges its bet by saying it could also reach 270 million units if both the iPhone Fold and Apple Intelligence features will manage to create strong demand. That's like saying "Apple will sell more iPhones if more people will want to buy them" - clearly true, but also not an insight in and of itself.
