Apple patents Split View, Slide Over and 3D Touch features

George, 02 July, 2016

Apple has just been granted a total of 12 design patents by the Hong Kong Patent and Trademark Office. The bulk of those cover features from the iPad Pro, namely Split View and Slide Over multitasking functionality. A single one of the 12 patents is related to the iPhone 6s - 3D Touch.

Apple filed for the patents all the way back in December last year - several months before the iPad Pro was made official.

Mind you, the scope of the patents covers the design of the features - it doesn't mean that other manufacturers can't make their own multi-window or 3D Touch-like implementation, just need to be careful on the "shape, configuration, pattern and/or ornament" of their designs.

Those patents are joke!... how can apple patent something what already exists... Just makes the whole thing invalid. I was probably since Android 3.0 Honeycomb where they introduced multi-window, split view and one hand controls ...
