Apple working on improved App Intents to supercharge Siri: Gurman
Apple's revamped Siri, which was showcased at WWDC 2024, has no official release date as earlier this year the Cupertino giant delayed the release indefinitely. However, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new Siri will be available next year with support for a new improved version of App Intents.
Gurman, in his latest Power On newsletter, states that an upgraded App Intents will allow Siri to fully control your iPhone using only voice inputs. As per the analyst, Siri will be able to perform actions such as finding a photo, editing it, and sending it to a contact, with a voice command.
You will also be able to ask Siri to open Instagram and like a post or even comment on it. Basically, with the improved App Intents, Siri will be able to control apps on the iPhone as a user would.
According to Gurman, Apple is testing the new App Intents internally and ironing out any bugs. The company plans to release the feature alongside the new Siri in Spring 2026, and is testing it with third-party apps from Amazon, Threads, YouTube, WhatsApp, Facebook, Uber, and more. As for banking and health apps, Apple will limit what Siri can do.

Wow that's like crawling when competitors are flying jet aircraft. Who wants to control their apps with their voice? This is such a last gen paradigm play.
