Apple's App Store reaches 1.5 million available apps

Victor, 15 July, 2015

It is amazing to see how much Apple's software market has grown since its humble launch back in 2008. Initially the App Store debuted along with iOS 2.0.1 and a total of about 500 apps, which back then was a colossal number of third-party code to have for your smartphone.

According to current appshopper.com statistics, the platform now hosts over 1.5 million apps, 1,505,601 at the time of writing this article and growing by the minute. And this only includes currently active projects, if we count all that were withdrawn throughout the years, we get an even more-impressive number - 2,312,658.

As a side note, the App Store is not limited to iOS only and also hosts OSX software, as well as custom-tailored apps for the iPad. The former, however represent an insignificant percent of the portfolio - about 23,000 on total. The iPad, on the other hand, has been getting a lot of tailored attention with almost half a million dedicated apps.

Thanks for the tip Dawid
