Apple's first foldable iPhone won't have an in-display fingerprint sensor, analyst claims
Apple's first foldable-display iPhone, which we're calling iPhone Fold for the sake of simplicity, is widely rumored to be coming in late 2026, after many, many years of rumors and speculation about it.
When it does arrive, it won't have an in-display fingerprint scanner, according to renowned purveyor of Apple-related supply chain information Ming-Chi Kuo.
Six months ago, I predicted the foldable iPhone would use side-button Touch ID. There are now market rumors that it will adopt an under-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, but I think that’s unlikely. It’s expected that Luxshare ICT will supply the side-button Touch ID module… https://t.co/KsGu49JXkP

As you can see in the post on X embedded above, Kuo refutes recently resurfaced rumors that the device would boast the tech. Instead, he once again reiterates the fact that the iPhone Fold will have a side-mounted capacitive sensor.
Apple has even chosen a specific supplier for this part already, according to Kuo, and that is Luxshare ICT. Considering the fact that the iPhone Fold would need not one, but two under-display scanners since it will have an internal folding screen as well as a cover display, and the fact that Apple is still using Touch ID branded fingerprint sensors in iPads, and those are on the sides, this makes sense.
The iPhone Fold is expected to really shake up the folding smartphone market when it arrives late next year, although it might not be a huge seller with its rumored $2,000 to $2,500 price. It will have a 7.8" folding screen and a 5.5" cover screen.

If you don't plan on buying it, why make a big deal about it ? It's for Apple users that don't want to use a Samsung device.

Sadly, no matter how much it costs, or how inferior the experience is, it will probably sell like gangbusters compared to the Galaxy or Pixel Folds, at least in the US. And idiots will think that Apple had the "courage" to "innovate&qu...

I don’t think Apple would go with in display sensor. Not only they’re still slower than capacitive sensor, they would need two, one on the outer screen and one on the inner screen. Apple is a cheapskate, they wouldn’t want the phone to cost more. Sid...
