Apple's share of worldwide smartwatch market last year was nearly 50%
Apple claimed nearly 50% share (49% to be precise) of the worldwide smartwatch market last year, according to a new report from research firm Canalys. Fitbit and Samsung came in at second and third position with 17% and 15%.
Talking about the last quarter, the report notes that Q4 2016 was the best quarter for the Apple Watch so far - of the total 9 million smartwatches that were shipped in the quarter, shipments figure for the Apple Watch stood at 6 million (an year-on-year growth of 12%).
"Apple Watch generated more than US$2.6 billion in revenue for Apple in Q4 2016, making up nearly 80% of total smartwatch revenue," the report said. In total, the Cupertino-based company shipped a total of 11.9 million Watch units last year.

The Apple Watch has been the deciding factor for me staying with Apple. Battery life is great and everything just works. Premium materials used is a major plus. My Moto 360 is all discolored and the screen is all scratched up.

Because not many buy smartwatches. These are mostly resellers.
