If your cellular provider utilizes HSPA+ 42, then you will experience speeds in the 8Mbs-18Mbs download speeds. Much faster than 500Kbs-2Mbs typical 3G speeds.

But I've heard that the hardware is capable of voice calls and SMS, but we need to either wait for a mod or an official update by Google. No official update has been announced to my knowledge.

How to activate GPRS/EDGE on Google Nexus 7 Cellular?
If activated, how to turn it on?
I'm using Zong Network in Pakistan.
I tried a lot, but unable to find any solution.

To answer recurent questions : It is definitely not possible to place cell calls with Nexus 7 3G. Only VOIP calls with a VOIP provider. As for SMSs GOSMS PRO and also MOBILEVOIP among others do pickup incoming CELL SMSs but I could not get sound nor visual notifications or their arrivals. So far. VOIP calls are quite clear without any Bluetooth device. Just internal microphone and speaker.You can set up call forwarding on your SIP account to finaly get your calls on the Nexus. With DIDLOGIC.com for instance. Alltough all of this is a bit complicated I aggree.

Unfortunately for most of you, The SIM Card is only available for T-Mobile and AT&T. Verizon and other services and providers will not support SIM Cards as they all have their own custom made phones and operating systems.
