AnonD-45676, 30 May 2014The voice of this phone is clarity ?The audio speaker clarity is clear and crisp but the volume is a bit slow and weak. Make sure to set AudioWizard at Movie or music mode so that volume is much better. The audio is too slow if you set at Power Saving Mode.

I just bought Asus Zenfone 4 at price RM299 and i’m satisfied on this entry-level model which is worth of money despite a few downsides such as lack of LED Flash, digital compass , S-View function, and IPS screen (but hey.. it’s cheapo right! If you want all of those functions, better purchase Zenfone 5 or 6).
Actually I already have Asus Fonepad FHD Note 6 which are similar to Zenfone 6 but it got Full HD screen and WACOM Stylus same as S-Pen from Samsung Galaxy Note 3. However due to the big bulky size of Fonepad Note 6 that not very comfortable to fit in my jeans pocket, I’ve decided to buy a small phone as the alternative for phone calls only. Less but not least I found that Zenfone 4 is a good choice I’ve made which are very impressive compare with other brand on its class.
Here is what I can explain the pros and cons after testing and using it for a few days. I hope this review helped you decided what’s the best buy for your money since GSM Arena did not give a review yet on this model.. :-)
Screen Display:
The 4inch capacitive TFT screen at resolution 480x800 (240dpi) is good looking and the screen is quite bright too. However the display just plain TFT LCD as the color wash out if you look at from the top and down angle. It’s not good as IPS screen which is the latest display technology nowadays. The only impressive about the screen that it got multi-touch up to 10 fingers! I’m sure no other brand with same level or price has multi-touch like Asus Zenfone.
Memory, RAM, Card slot:
Internal storage is 8GB but only 4.61GB user available. The good news is you can install apps to external SD Card for up to 64GB. I recommend to use SDHC Class 10 for faster read/write data. Currently I’ve installed Sandisk Ultra SDHC 16GB Class 10 and the phone can read/play full HD video without lags. There are 1GB RAM equipped which is sufficient for normal apps but for gaming especially 3D games such as Real Racing 3, Asphalt 8 or Modern Combat 4, you better clean your memory first before running the games. Use apps CleanMaster that have memory boost is a good idea to achieve best performance.
CPU and GPU:
This phone has CPU Intel Atom Dual core Z2520 clock speed from 800Mhz to 1.2Ghz (4 Cores HyperThreads). I found a few apps error or unexpected close due to incompatible instruction since the architecture of Intel atom based on x86 instead of major mobile industry equipped with ARMv6/v7 (Cortex) that are common used to Samsung mobile phones. While the GPU based on PowerVR SGX 544MP2 is powerful enough to play latest games.
Connectivity:
Has wireless support 802.11 b/g/n at 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. WiFI Direct and HotSpot. The range of wifi receiver is modest but weaker than my previous Samsung Galaxy Tab P3100, Galaxy Chat B5330 and Galaxy S3. Also has Bluetooth other great function is ASUS Miracast that can streaming movie, presentation or even playing android games on a big TV using Miracast Dongle.
GPS:
The GPS receivers are not good enough compare with other brand like Samsung. I tried testing GPS Test with my old Samsung Galaxy Mini and the result is my oldie Galaxy Mini gps receiver is much better. Zenfone 4: Sattelite In-View 11/ In-Use 4 while for Galaxy Mini: Satelite In-View 18/ In-Use 9. I installed Sygic v13.1.1 (offline data) and it work properly but only at open space but useless if use indoor that cannot lock the satellite even my home is only a single storey terrace. However it can compensate by A-GPS which you could use Google Maps or Waze that utilize data from internet via WiFi or 3G for faster searching and navigation.
Camera:
Primary rear camera 5MP with Autofocus and 0.3MP front camera are just nothing to be shout about and the quality picture is just fair or so-so only. There are camera setting you can change manually like white balance, ISO range, focus & exposure, optimization, pic resolution, HDR, Panorama, anti-shake enhancement and face detection. Those setting are only for someone expertise in photography but leave it mode AUTO if you’re noob.. ;-) The camera also lacks of LED flash so shooting at low light is a bit disappointed.
Battery:
The package provided 2 batteries Li-Po 1200mAh and full charge can last only 1 day for normal use without playing 3D games that could deplete the battery juice just for a few hours only. The extra battery isn’t helped since no external docking charger included. It’s better if ASUS put a bigger 2100mAh in one piece than giving 2 batteries but missing the docking charger.
Sensors:
The phone only has Accelerometer (Tilt/screen rotation) and proximity (display off when phone near face) only. It lacks e-Compass, light sensor, gyro sensor, gravity sensor, linear and direction sensor that all function existing on my Fonepad Note 6.
NOTE:
I’ve tested all the experiment and describe the data using apps:-
CPU-Z
Multitouch Tester
Android system Info
Antutu Benchmark
Quadrant
FutureMark
Epic Citadel
GPS Test

Using this phone for 1 week now after 2 months waiting... so far, this is beyond my expetation for a price only 299 Malaysian Ringgit.
Pro (my opinion):
-8bg internal plus my 16gb sdcard. with so much space and apps, this phone doesn't slow down..
-full time, fast connectivity internet, gps without HEAT compare to my previous Galaxy s4 i9500.
- editing with Office Mobile still easy though the display is only 4 inches
Cons:
-Camera... hmm... acceptable only when hdr in on...
-And the battery can last for 12 hour without power saver. Thats why Asus gave 2 batteries?
really worth waiting!!!

N the GPS work perfectly. Install Waze to fully utilized the GPS function on the phone. The phone doesn't have any trouble to view high resolution video( try up to 1800i movie) and the phone doesn't lag for normal use. Now for the bad side of this phone, other than weak battery juice, the phone also lag when try the game that need high RAM phone.( Edge Of Tomorrow game) The 1GB cannot support minor of the Google Play Store game because of it's insufficient RAM.

After more than 2 week of owning the Asus Zenfone 4, I will say it will be the good phone for those who still new to this android phone. For the price of rm299, i didn't expect so much for this phone but i exceed my expectation. Now i will give the review the battery life for this phone. It got two version, with and without the Power Saver Mode is on.
Without Power Saver On:-
Standby time + regular use- Around 12 hour with low
brightness and 10 hour for full brightness
With Power Saver On:-
Standby time + regular use- Almost a 18 hour
But I will say, IF only the battery have more juice in it. It will be perfect.
