A, 18 Jul 2024Please tell how's device Mine unit 128GB, 6GB RAM, everything just works, changed battery for once. Of course the battery life cannot compare to the new 5000mah smartphone, but it does works for what it is. Don't come and say which newer smartphone is better, this is one of the retro smartphone that still retain 3.5mm headphone jack and Micro SD slot, then still using LCD.

Finally, this smartphone officially steps into the 6th years. This was one of the dark horse of the year, maybe over shadowed by Pocophone F1. Pricing wise, this is not really far from Pocophone F1 (I do also own it) for the 128GB model. However, this one does offer much higher quality LCD (all should see what high quality LCD is all about, which is so much better than the overhyped iQoo Z7/Z7x/Z9x, and those from Realme, of course better than Pocophone F1), NFC, proper stereo speaker, proper glass body, metal frame. This is only let down by slightly inferior camera and smaller battery capacity (but is a norm on that time), also bad WiFi reception (among the worse). I do take it for repair the ribbon cable, which affect the fast charging, also has replace the battery. Other than that, it still works properly, SD845 still very strong, just that it is already date, not the strongest. Software wise, it might not get the latest update, but it is still fluid and fast, feel stockish. Sadly, the Zenfone 6/7/9/10/11 is not sold in my region, and Zenfone 8 Flip is bad with the SD888. Probably the best Zenfone is stopped at Zenfone 7. All in all, this is definitely one of the best smartphone that I ever owned.

Stratospheric, 25 May 2024I am still amazaed by the amount of attention to detail tha... moreNot really, I got no such issue, all things works, maybe for old phone, this doesn't support 5G, and WiFi reception is worse than modern Snapdragon chip. The rest, this is one of the most durable smartphone build by ASUS. However, the Android update is just 2 version, if ASUS support this device well then more and more people will pick ASUS. With the competition from China brand, ASUS is the only Taiwan brand standing after HTC already flopped.

I am still amazaed by the amount of attention to detail that has been given to this phone, making it the most perfect device i ever had:

            - Perfect form factor, neither too big, neither too small, very light
            - Most beautiful IPS display ever, zero flickering
            - Excellent cameras with VERY fast shutter: i can make photos on the move and catch drops fall from the sky/splashes of water for instance
            - Immersive audio, that i've never found on any other phone, both headphones and speakers
            - FM radio
            - Beautiful system (especially Android 9) full of gestures
            - And i could continue the list...

            Minuses:

            - Relatively fragile, doesn't like drops or splashes of water
            - The CPU will separate from the motherboard after 3 to 5 years of use, necessiting a reball, most people wrongfully just discard their devices (Zenfone 5 model isn't affected by this)

I recently tried a new mid-range model from Motorola and it was inferior to this Asus in almost every aspect.

What we can affirm is that ever since Asus or not any other manufacturer that i know of has given so much attention and time to polish a device to bring it to such level of perfecteness.

Thank you Asus and hope to see such models from you in the future i.e:

            - Compact phones
            - Flip phones
            - High quality IPS phones with no PWM (yes, cause there's a lot of people who despise AMOLED and a huge market for that)

Stratospheric, 26 Oct 2023So teach me please how to look at PWM? 🤔 If you already know, PWM is only relevant to AMOLED or OLED screen because of how these type of screen works to display image, but not so relevant to IPS LCD screen as these screen don't really 'flicker'. Also, don't fall into these marketing gimmick saying higher PWM is better/comfort for eye, you might not able to see these flicker in general. The most important, keep a proper distance in between the screen and your eye, also keep the watching environment has enough ambient light so that your eye don't use higher energy or over focus on the screen is the best eye caring.

Stratospheric, 30 Jan 2024Anyone still using these rigs? Still using, soon passing 5 years of use. Screen intact even though I haven't had a screen protector for a year. Battery health is around 55-63% according to AccuBattery - time to replace soon. Stock softshell case is starting to deterioate and has gone from transparent to a dark yellow smoke color. Lots of small dents and scratches in the aluminium frame. Speakers don't sound as good as they once did. People can't really hear me if I use external speaker. Some glitches regarding notifications and camera(requires reset of camera app). Starting to feel slightly less responsiveness in apps and general ui but I don't use AI-boost and I probably should do a factory reset. I just looked inside the phone's box and found out there was a pair of in ears included. I'll dunk a new battery in her and see how far we can make it until I actually need to replace this fone, it's been a good 5 years so far!

                            Anyone still using these rigs?
