A periscope telephoto with a 16:9, all that with a 3.5mm headphone jack and a MicroSD slot!
The performance and the software policy is lacking.
Still, what's not to love about this phone?

I got myself one to use as a web camera for online face-to-face teaching, as it appeared to be the only one with continuous optical zoom with that good of a focus distance. It turned out to be an excellent choice, DroidCam OBS works perfectly with the Android 6 update, and the picture is colorful and sharp. The zoom value of 2x (which translates to ~52mm equivalent) is enough for my use case. The background is blurred, which translates to a professional DSLR-esque look. I wonder why we weren't getting more smartphones with periscope cameras for all those years.

People keep on raving about those periscope telephoto cameras like in Huawei P30 Pro and Oppo Reno 10x zoom, not knowing that it was ASUS who actually started the whole periscope camera trend. Now, five years later in 2020, ASUS idea is coming back: https://www.gsmarena.com/ofilm_unveils_periscope_module_with_continuous_zoom_85_mm_to_170_mm-news-43797.php

I'm writing right now with this phone asus zenfone zoom in year of 2020 battery is fine , camera is fine , touch screen and ips lcd is fine too with 3 hard drops , one spot of lcd is glowing white but its alright, some times its Bluetooth not working and the phone begins overheating and draining battery and it will restarting to fix back to normal.4gb ram not enough sometimes, I cant play pubg because of performance is not enough , its stuttering on humans hair i dont know why , but it can play modern combat 3 and 4 , i wish to upgrade the phone to higher Android version , if anyone anything know about manually upgrade a standard android 7 8 or 9 or 10 , it will very useful to everyone.

I've had this phone since 2016 and kept it as a back up for many years now and must say it's still snappy and works great.
I use my Xiaomi Note 10 Pro and P30Pro as daily Personal+Work phone's however the Zenfone Zoom is always a reliable backup and with it's great optical zoom I still find the image quality of the photo's it takes to be excellent.
Only thing that let this phone down when I used it as a daily was GPS. Other than that it's a solid 10/10.
I paid about $160-180 AUD when I got it years back and some of the best value for money spent on a phone.

This is a fully featured phone with an excellent camera, battery life is good and it has a lot of functionality (NFC, optical zoom etc) that were ahead of its time. The only thing that lets it down is the processor, the Intel atom processor is under powered and tends to overheat when under stress. Despite this the phone is still very responsive and will handle everyday demands. It is getting a bit old now and a lot of apps built for later android versions simply don't run on this phone at all. If they came out with an updated version of this with a snapdragon processor then I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Even thou... Atom 3580/90 chipsets can go as up as 60º C without suffering any harm. (at that temp, your hand will let you know, thou XD).
Still... as i said before... great phone...
Quad-core with better and more useful performance than a lot of Octa cores.

1. Lower screen brightness
An overly bright screen consumes more power and can be harmful to the eye. To adjust brightness, swipe down from the notification bar twice and use the slider. Extend your battery life, and protect your eyes while doing so!
2. Shorten screen timeout time.
To squeeze more juice out of your battery, you can shorten the screen timeout time so that your phone goes into sleep mode faster. Try changing the time from the default 1 minute to 15 seconds.
To change this setting, tap Settings > Display > Sleep.
To change Cover View screen timeout time, go to Settings > ASUS Cover > Automatic sleep.
3. Trim unnecessary background apps.
Prevent unnecessary apps you don't need from running in the background and consuming your battery by using Auto-start Manager. Tap Auto-start Manager to select apps you want to discontinue from running.
4. Use Smart-saving Mode .
ZenFone 2 has many extremely useful battery modes, one of which is Smart-saving mode. It provides extra toggles for brightness, a feature that turns off internet, and an Extend Standby feature that lowers battery consumption by efficiently managing your push notifications when your phone is in sleep mode.
Tap Settings > Power management > Power Saver > Battery Modes > Smart-saving mode.
5. Tap Boost from Quick Settings.
Have you ever wished for a single button that solves all your problems? When you tap Boost, not only does it make your phone faster, but it also lowers battery consumption. Swipe down from the notification bar twice to find the Boost button.
6. Choose Wi-Fi over 3G/4G Data.
Using Wi-Fi instead of a data connection will use less battery because your phone doesn't need to constantly search for the network.
To turn on Wi-Fi, swipe down from the notification bar twice and tap the Wi-Fi icon.
7. Turn off Location Services, Bluetooth, and NFC.
Don't be lazy! Turning off these services when you're not using them can extend your battery life. To turn these services off, swipe down from the notification bar twice and tap the Location, Bluetooth, or NFC icon.
8. Set up an Auto-switch mode schedule.
You can't be using your phone all the time! Set up a time interval in Auto-switch mode to automatically switch to a lower battery consumption power mode when you're not using it. To do this, tap Settings > Power management > Power Saver > Auto-switch mode. After enabling this feature and choosing your starting and ending times, we recommend setting it to change to Ultra-saving mode (the default).
Last but not least, don't forget to pick up a ZenPower
