You can just go to BlackBerry's website to download the latest Desktop Manager to connect up your BlackBerry, but the real value of the BlackBerry is subscribing to your mobile vendors BlackBerry "push" e-mail plan, for personal use, most people use "BIS" BlackBerry Internet Service.

Excellent phone to use, especially for emails. Might look big and bulky, but it works like a charm.

Pros:
Feels very sturdy when holding it my hand.
Very BASIC and SIMPLE. The 7290 doesn’t have the cheap plastic feel that the 8700r or the 7130g have or the bells and whistles that the newer devices have-a real major turn off for me as a customer.
The phone isn’t bad and the email is typical BlackBerry.
Reception. I live in a dead-zone of coverage and this device holds a signal whereas the previous phones and devices I’ve own would loose signal strength.
Cons:
The BlackBerry tended to reboot itself twice since it replaced a defective 7290 that my provider sent me that rebooted consistently. It was a glitch in the software. Since then I haven’t had any issues with the replacement 7290.
The web is slow as it’s typical GPRS. I prefer it that way than the EDGE on the 7130g that constantly went to GPRS from EDGE. EDGE is nice but it’s too overrated.
It’s too bad that RIM is discontinuing in making the 7200 series, as they are more reliable and sturdy than the newer ones that are coming out on the market.

phone worked fine for 1.5 years, now seems completely dead. spent $300.00 think I may have been better to put my money elsewhere.
