As you are saying that the mail is not comming. You just need to check whether EDGE is showing in caps or not. If not then move to option mobile network and the on the data services. If still EDGE is showing small then you need to do heard boot the devise(take out the battery without switch off and plugged in back). I think ur prob will resolved...

8300 is a GSM network phone, doesn't support CDMA. you probably bought a 8330 which is CDMA phone that you need to activate your phone line with your carrier, instead of inserting GSM sim card.
